Hey all. I went to a Native American cooking thingy on the Post last week, and one of the things they showed us how to make was Navajo Tacos.
The filling I made was beans and ground turkey with tomatoes, chili powder, cumin all cooked together for HOURS.
I also made the Navajo Fry Bread (some of which we ate with the taco filling, the rest we drizzled with honey & sprinkled with cinnamon sugar)
With it was my very own Wheat Beer and it went together beautifully!

Oooops! Yeah xtalman got it right in one! I work over on Ft. Leonard Wood and they held the exhibition on cooking.
This is fairly small town so around here EVERYONE knows what you mean by the Post or the Fort (and Lake of the Ozarks is the beach  ) Sorry for the confusion.

i think im all fry breaded out, being a registed chickasaw, growing up frybread was always a treat, i used to go to pow wows just for the navajo tacos! then i started making my own. and when i was on disability and my insurance wasn't paying up like they were suppose to, i knew i was going to have to start feeding the kids and myself poormans food. but i went indain style and started frying up bread for breakfast lunch and dinner.
i'd put chorizo (sp?) diced potatos and cheese on fry bread for breakfast and it was pretty damn good. but im burnt on it now and it is sooo messy to make frybread! but im glad you're enjoying it!

I was looking at some old food postings and ran across this thread.
Last year on my canoe trip, I made Bannock which is an Indian or Scottish fry bread, depending on who you ask. Each "loaf" was eaten as fast as I could get it out of the frying pan.
There was some drunken talk about opening a Bannock and coffee shop, kind of like Panera Bread, but most of us forgot all about it in the morning. LOL
