I'm sure this question has been asked before, but i want to start brewing bigger batches, i.e.10-13 gallon batches, I only have a 30 qt. pot.
so i want to convert some 1/2 barrel kegs for this purpose.
question: where does one find 1/2 barrel kegs without stealing them from frat houses after all have passed out?
2. Once the kegs have been obtained, does anyone have a good link on how to properly convert the kegs?

go to www.kegs.com (http://www.kegs.com/buildyourown.html). You can order a legit keg, washed and with the top cut off for ~$60.

Or you can go to a local SS junk yard and pick them up for scrap weight. Around $10 - $20 each.

Youmight be able to find them cheaper on ebay, especially if they area within pick-up range....shipping those heavy things gets pricey. In addtion, at least purchasing on ebay provides a paper trail for you to be able to easily prove a good faith purchase in case you caught flack.

This is by far the easiest and best spent money on a converted keg. No welding - and the kegs come absolutely spotless and ready to use. A standard 12" lid from the kitchen would be a nice addition, or you can spend an additional $30 and order one with your kettle.

The next thing to do is outfit your new kettle with an outlet valve, a sight tube, and a kettle screen. Prepare for shameless plug:

You can get everything you need to outfit your new kettle at the above link.

LOL Harkjonny......Its called a mistake. My welder missed the mark by a few inches. But I can add a temp probe or something there at a later date. good Catch. Your not supposed to see that. Also....I bought the sign on ebay from some sign company. CAnt remember....But they still have them....$19.95 I think.
