I am moving from Boston to Seattle and I am looking for a place to replace my local hangout in Boston -- The Sunset Grill and Tap. Sunset has about 450 beers on its menu (125 on tap and 300+ in bottles) and I am looking for a place in the great city of Seattle that has something more than the standard 10 or so beers available. I like a nice selection since I never really know what I am in the mood for and I will try just about anything once. Anyone have any suggestions????

I'm not sure that we could match a 450er (holy cow ... how do you decide what to try with so many choices?) but we've got some good ones. If you know what part you might be living in we can maybe narrow things down a bit.

Thanks for the post Kiltlifter. With 450 beers, you just figure out what style you might want and go with what you haven't tried. I don't expect that anything in Seatlle can match the Sunset (which I believe has the 4 th largest selection in the country), I am just looking for something with a good selection (50-100 beers) and a nice mix of domestic and imports. I am looking at living in the Freemont/Phinney/Greenlake area, but I have thirst, will travel. If it means a road trip, well then I just have to find a designated driver.

On a side note, just got back from the Sunset, triend a beer called Jenalin from France. Highly recommended (also on the "All About Beer" top 101 must try beers).

In that neighborhood you are going to be able to just start walking, go by what is basically a neighborhood place, stop in and ... find great beer. Seattle is home to taphouses with less than 20 handles that have great selections. The nice thing that one will have a handle from a brewery you like, another a different handle from the same brewery.

Right in the neighborhood, try the Latona Pub (6423 Latona Ave), and see if they have Diamond Knot IPA (for starters).

Now, for a road trip, try the Taphouse Grill (http://www.taphousegrill.com/beers.html) in Bellevue. MORE TAPS than the Sunset.

Prosit,
Stan

In the words of Don Henley: Let's go down to the Sunset Grill!

Maybe we'll leave come springtime, meanwhile, have another beer.

Hey Steve,

Where do you think they go the name?

(Pause) From the song.

At least that's the story I heard.

Prosit,
Stan

Sounds logical to me. But I thought maybe you were going to tell me it was a favorite watering hole for Henley and he swiped the name for the song! Always been one of my favorites - and favorite lines.

So... where are the good beer bars in the Seattle area these days?
I always enjoyed the Dog & Pony in Renton before I left the area.
I'll lbe back for a bit in June but time is limited, and want to find out where's good.

After 4 and a half years, I think I can now answer this question. If you are looking for a place in the downtown Seattle area, Collins Pub near the Smith Tower and Taphouse Grill downtown are probably my two favorites, although I do have to admit that I am partial to the Duck Island Ale House and Uber right near Greenlake, as well as the Latona Pub.

I always wanted to go to but never made it to the Collins. The Taphouse is a good back-up, and I've been to the Uber when it was 'steal this glass' night. I'll have to check out the Latona and the Duck.
