Hefe ... without any wheat?

I have a co-worker who loves hefeweizen but can't drink it anymore because they have a wheat alergic reaction. I was just wondering if it was possible to mimic the taste of a hefe by using a combination of other grains?

I'd try just using a german hefe yeast on a straight barley mash and see how they like it...
