I remember reading about this in the Prov. Journal while I was in RI over the summer.
The article said that a guy with deep pockets (can't remember his name) wanted to resurrect the brand. I vividly remember my dad/uncles/grandfather drinking Narragansett when I was a kid. By the time I started drinking, it was bought out by Falstaff? (or some other piss producer) and long gone. I don't have time right now to go looking, but I remember coming across a web page that gives the whole sad history.

Maybe NewportStorm can supply some more details.

He might. In fact, IIRC, he supplied a really nice link about a year back on the demise of the original Narragansett Brewing.
Do a search for "Narragansett Brewing" and you may find it.

I know the feeling well. I actually thought it had been Newport as well until I saw the thread. I love brewery history and enjoy checking out these stories. I'm probably gonna end up with that new Ohio book. Looks great.
