Anyone ever heard of the brand name U-Line? There's a kegerator coming up for auction in my area this weekend and I'm definitely interested. Looks like a commercial unit, especially considering there's other bar equipment there too (some of which I'll be checking out as well).

I can see it in person beforehand, but I figure the more I know in advance the better. Also, anything I should check beforehand? What is easily/cheaply replaceable if it's not in good condition? Here's a picture (http://www.farmauctionguide.com/cgi-bin/viewimg.cgi?/auctionimages/darcy_1129135294_f_Oct_22_2005_006.jpg) if anyone's interested in a look.

U-Line has not made that unit for many years to the best of my knolwedge. I used to sell restaurant equipment and even sold some of those. U-line stopped making them before 1996. It was even before that but I can't remember save for that is when I quit that business.

You might want to check and make sure you can get parts for it if meed be since it has been out of production for so long. There is of course the chance they started making them again but I doubt it very much.

From the picture I can see a defective part, but it can be changed quite easily. That tap handle should not be used on that device.

I just checked their website. It does not show any kegerators. My guess is that that unit is many years old. Now, U-Line made/makes good quality equipment. I still would be concerned about getting parts though. The big thing would be the compressor. Check and see who made it as I am quite sure U-Line did not build their own. If the compressor companymis still in business, I would say get it at a bargin price and you will be happy.

I got a chance to go view it this afternoon. The guy at the auction house said all the bar equipment there was on consignment from a guy who had planned to open a bar but never did. The stuff was said to be in storage for a while prior.

But it was in kind of rough shape, even to my untrained eye. It was rusty on the inside and when I plugged it in I heard noises that you definitely don't want to hear from something that's supposed to take loving care of your beer. Too bad though - it had *some* pluses - there was a huge CO2 tank and regulator inside that I imagine would come with it, and the drip tray is kind of a cool lattice when you see it closer.

I think I'm going to stick to my original plan of a converted fridge. I have a feeling that thing would go for more than I think it's worth. I already have the fridge bought for doing my own. I just need the remainder of the parts. More surfing ahead!
