Hey All....
Out patio season is winding down and so is the weekly cask at CapCity Union Station..first of all I want to thank everyone who made this an actual even more often than not and made my super long Thursdays more enjoyable with some company....
There will be two more weekly casks this and next thursday (beers to be determined) before moving into winter mode...during these next two Real Ale nights I will have sign up sheets for anyone interested in hearing about real ale and other beer related events (Im going to try to get a beer dinner trend going next) at this (and probably other) CapCitys. I will also be taking suggestions for the winter version of cask night from the devoted beer drinkers.....as of right now I am thinking of moving to once or twice a month probably on a tuesday or wednesday night...that's about it from this brewery...thanks again for making Cask Night a success and I hope to see some of you in the next couple weeks to talk about drinking in the winter...

Cheers!
Pete

As I am filling the firkin now, I wanted to let you all know that next thursday (the last regular cask night) I will have a cask of my Pumpkin Ale....I know this is not the type of beer for beer aficionados, but I am priming the cask with a couple of different sugars so it will be interesting to see what comes through. I expect the draft version to be available early the following week...hope to see some of you here..

Cheers!
Pete

I'll try to get there at any rate... my coworkers were all from out of town from other locations on the East Coast. And apparently none of them had any sense of adventure.

Hi everyone....
I finished my regular round of cask night last night with a cask of my Pumpkin Ale...It was pretty well received as it was gone in about 2.5 hours....the draft version will be available on Monday (10/31)...
As for the next phase of casks first I want to ask what other events and what days go on in DC during the winter.. for instance I know the Reef does a firkin night, but Im not sure when...and I also wanted to give everyone a heads up regarding upcoming casks....
Right now I have (or will have by days end) a cask of Amber Waves that is condidtioned with maple syrup..this version of one of our flag ship beers always comes out nice...and I also have a cask of dryhopped Pale Ale. I brewed a Porter yesterday that I will cask off and condition probably maple syrup and maybe a little coffee and the one that I am really looking forward to making is from a Weizenbock that I am brewing next week....our head chef here has been playing with edible flowers in some of his specials and I wouldnt be surprised if a bunch of them ended up in a cask of Weizenbock
From this point on...I am going to try to make casks only of specialties and have the cask as a preview of the draft version....keep an eye on the board for dates and times..and hopefully we'll be able to drink our way through the winter...

Cheers!
Pete

Brian won't be starting firkins for a wee while yet. Sorry I missed last night but it was my father in laws birthday.

Hey everyone....

I really apologize for the short notice, but I literally have to make some room in my cooler so I am going to tap a cask of Weizenbock tonight at around 5. This is a prelude to the draft version that will be available tomorrw. It is a 7% wheat beer that I fermented with a Belgian Wit yeast and conditioned the cask with maple syrup and edible flowers. This will be $2.50 a pint and if you ask nicely you might even get a logo pint glass to take home.

As a side note I will be restarting the Cask Night after the first of the year and it will probably be every other wednesday night..the first couple of beers are going to be a Maple Amber and a dry hopped ESB.

I hope some of you can make it tonight, but if not there is certainly more to come.....

Cheers!

Hey all...
I will be tapping a cask this wednesday night of either a dryhopped ESB or a maple conditioned Amber (if anyone has a preference let me know).
I will tap it around 5 and be serving it (personally) until about 7 or 8 then it will stay on the bar until its gone or we close....
Ill be doing this every other wednesday night until the patio opens in the spring when I will resume the weekly casks...
I hope some of you can make it

Cheers!

I stopped by Cap City Union Station Last night and finally met Pete in person. While there, I tried the ESB and the Oatmeal Stout which were both very good. However, Pete has tried to recreate an old recipe from the Defuct VA Native and he has hit on something I found stunningly great. It is basically a bock with a slightly higher ABV and a soft subtle smokiness that is apparent and then gives way to the malt for the finish This beer has a finesse to it. A wonderful blend of flavors with nothing being overbearing. I'm hoping he has lots more of this. (Hope this is the one you send to Blue Gray, Pete)
It was a pleasure to finally meet Pete in person. He is doing a great job with the Cap City beers in general and this one in particular. Thanks for a job well done!

Pete will be serving a cask this evening at 5:00 at Cap City Union Station . I'll be heading to the RFD tasting tonight or I would definately head back by. Pete will be bringing one of his brews to RFD tasting Thursday evening for those going that night.

Pete posted this over on DC-Beer:

Just a reminder for tomorrow's cask night...the featured beer will be an American Brown ale, its a little on the hoppy side, but the cask version is not surprisingly more mellow. For those of you who visit the Shirlington location, this beer should taste strangely familiar to what they have on the hand pump right now...mainly because it is the same beer.....in an effort to maintain the cask night trend I had to 'borrow' a cask from Shirlington....
As a side note my Maple Brown Ale should be on tap by the end of the week..

Cheers,
Pete
