My friends and I recently bought a kegerator, ie we split the cost 5 ways, yet two of them are the ones who handled the purchasing and research etc ( I wasnt one of them ). We are currently on our third keg, the 1st was Yuengling, the second two have been crap beers such as bud light and miller or coors because we have been trying to get it in working order.

The Yuengling is the beer that we want to have in there, yet after hooking it up and letting it "charge" for 24 hours or so, the next night when we had people over, the beer tasted very bitter to me and when it pours it pours slowly and almost 50% head. It continues to do this with bud light which i set at 38F and 12 psi. The Yuengling I set at 36 and 14 and we have the same problems with both kegs.

I know that these beers arent the best beers but take pity on me and remember im dealing with people who did no research before they bought this kegerator, and I cant find kegs of Magic Hat or Asahi and Im the one who for his 21st got 21 different beers from around the world, and they all think me pleading to at least buy Budweiser or Yuengling is stupid, "beer is beer", so I need help on what I can convince people to buy.

The keg we bought Kegerator (http://cgi.ebay.com/draft-tap-keg-kegerator-beerfridge-beermeister_W0QQitemZ7555008604QQcategoryZ25364QQr dZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

Any help would be appreciated as well as any good beers to recommend to try. About 10-20 of us go through a keg a week or so. Thanks a lot.

Your link is dead. Can you just post what brand and model it is?

I'm going to make some educated guesses in any case. I'll bet the tower is not cooled, so you're going to get foam for the first pours evertime no matter what. You're pressure should maybe be higher, though it depends what the i.d (interior diameter) of your beer line is and how long it is. Are you sure your kegerator is maintaing proper temp? Place a glass with water inside with a thermometer and see what the acutal liquid temp is.

BTW are you sure your keg(s) have been handled properly?

If 10-20 of you are going through a keg you should definitely get some better beer. But you knew that.

A couple of questions: How long is the beer line (e.g. 5 feet)? Is the kegerator new or used? How about the co2 regulator? Are there any noticable kinks/pinches in the beer line?

A very slow pour means you have low co2 pressure, a kink in the line, or a longer beer line than you need. 12PSI should be fine, but your regulator could be inaccurate. Low pressure will also create your foaming issues. Higher temps will also causing the foaming issues, but not a slow pour. Anyway, let us know more about your system and we can get you on track.
