for some reason, there are no places to go that have 100+ beers on tap. There are chains like the Yardhouse, Claim Jumper (there is 1 in the Bay Area), that have a HUGE beer selection in Southern California, but not up here. Why is that???
I love it when we visit LA or San Diego, you can find bars and restaurants with tons of different beer available all over the place.
Any suggestions where to go in the Bay Area that offer several tap beers?

Toronado in San Francisco. They have many many beers on tap.

There are a couple of people here that can help you with more options, but this is the best place to start in SFO (on Haight, just up from Magnolia Brewpub, another great place):
Toronado (http://www.toronado.com/)
Tweek beat me to it! Oh, well, here's the link, though...

Also check out:
Amnesia in the Mission district (Valencia and 19th) - They advertise as a music-club but their tap selection is top notch. You'll find me there on mondays for their free bluegrass shows.. sipping on some Maredsous 8 (on tap) or He'Brew (also on tap)
The Phoenix is next door with good food and beer as well.
At Toronado, make sure to check out their bottled list. I've found some amazing finds there.
And a short bart ride away - Jupiter in Berkeley (upstairs from the downtown berkeley bart station) Lots of guest taps, their own brews... good spot

I wonder if it is because we're more snooty and like individual restaurants rather than chains?
Don't get me wrong - I would kiss the bartender who offered me 100 beers to choose from - but restaurant style seems to be more on the more intimate, smaller bistro arrangement, and I doubt those places have the budget for a huge selection.
In San Jose, I like the tap selection at Mission Ale House - 20+ beers, including NB 1554 which I have never seen on tap anywhere else.

City Pub in Redwood City has 20+ taps and a reasonable menu, plus friendly servers.

Toronado - of course!

Rosie McCann's in Santana Row has NB 1554 on tap. Not much of a selection otherwise, but just thought I'd throw it out there.

Any more suggestions?
I will be in SF/Oakland for the week of Thanksgiving and would love to try a few nice brewpubs.
I'll be trying
Rogue Ales Public House - Newport
673 Union Street
San Francisco, CA
For sure.
Thanks

Marin County is a must. Do a search. :)

There are so many beer joints up there it's not even funny. I forget the name but there's a really cool place next to the Bart station you get off in Berkley to get to Triple Rock ( which should be checked out too ). I haven't been able to go for a long time but I KNOW you will find a great spot. Fret's correct about Marin. That place is a blast.

I think you're referring to Jupiter in Berkeley.
I've been to the Marin BrewCo before, really good beer there.
Also have to emphasize Toronado, been said before, but the place is a SF fixture and has things on tap that you can't get anywhere else. One of the few places to get a cask beer also, if you're into that.
Oh, and if you're in Oakland, try Barclay's. Never been there, but sounds like they have a great selection. It's on my list of places to visit.

That would be Jupiter.
I love that place!
Its upstairs from the downtown berkeley bart station (literally) which is nice... keep drinking until the last train out and then run down the stairs.
They don't brew on site but instead share a brewery with Drake's.
Jupiter's beer list is on their site (http://www.jupiterbeer.com/berkeley/beer/)
Currently on tap from their brewery:
NEW! Jupiter Quasar (Double IPA)
SEASONAL! Jupiter Mai Bock
Jupiter Hefe
Jupiter Pale
Jupiter Sunspot Gold
Jupiter Honey Wheat
Jupiter IPA
Jupiter Red Spot
Jupiter Amber
Jupiter Porter
Jupiter Dry Stout (Nitro Pour)
The honey wheat and Quasar are my faves over there. Honey wheat has just enough honey to impart its flavor without being a "dessert" beer.
The Mai Bock was a little too roasty for my taste but good nonetheless.
Their guest taps always feature Drake's and most of the other no.Cal beers.
The bartenders are also the most polite brewpub people I've ever met. No attitude and plenty of genuine interest in beer - even occasionally pouring a couple of free tasters just to let you compare their beers to similar styles.
And... out back there is a garden area with live music on weekends.
A must if you're in the area!
If its too crowded or you just feel like moving on, triple rock is 3 blocks away!

Marin county - no kidding! The whole north coast area is fantastic. Thank god Russian River's pub moved out of the Korbel building - that was a bit odd.

Nice, thanks for the offer.
I'll check with the wife and see what I can do.
Thanks either way.
