Looks like there is a new micro in South Louisiana in Covington. Heinerbrau. Looks good, beers sound good. Lets hope they are good and that business grows. Hogie, you heard of this?

I'll have to check them out. Still haven't gotten a chance to go to abita - maybe I can do it the same day as they are pretty close

That place looks great. We need more German brewers here.

Heiner Brau did survive the hurricane. A friend of mine in Slidell had some this past week, so they are distributing now also. Their website is never updated, e-mails are not returned, and the one time I tried to go it was closed (on a Saturday afternoon). It's only about 5 minutes away from the Abita brewery, so very easy to hit both. I'm going down there this week and will be picking some up. Friend says it's in a can, but that it was good. We'll see...

Heiner Brau was good! Went to this bar that's adjacent to a wine store where my friend had tried some, and they still had it. Just one kind, their Kolsch. I was very impressed. Asked if I could walk through the closed store to check out the beer selection and they let me, and noticed three sixers of it on that side. When I settled up I asked if a sixer could go on the tab as well, and she went and got it and bagged it for me. Tried to go back today before leaving Louisiana but the store was closed on Sunday.

It was a little darker, richer, fuller than I expected from a Kolsch. For some reason the beer that came to mind as a comperable is Dortmunder Gold from Great Lakes. I know they're different styles, and it's been a couple years since I had it, but that's the one I thought of. I'm looking forward to trying their others based on the experience, but couldn't find any on this trip.

I took a tour of the brewery and met the owner and his son. Very nice people. The Kolsch is great!

The kolsch is the only thing I can find. I went to their Octoberfest party last year and their Ofest is probably one of the best I've ever had. Looking forward to finding some this year.
