Checked out the Delirium Cafe in Sierra Madre this weekend.
Sweet. Ass. Sweet.
David "only" has 38 on tap at this one, but Stella was the only crap on tap. I had a Delirium Noel, a Val-Dieu Winter, and a couple others I can't remeber off hand. All were excellent of course.
It is much smaller than Lucky B's, but i found it to be more comfy and cozy. They are still setting up the retail shop in back, so the place isn't entirely finished, but the pub part is. This place is 5 minutes from my mother-in-laws house.
I am so happy I could poop.

David said there will be no festivals at Delirium.
But... that is just as well, given the size.

As I've stated before... Dude, I rule.
I think I'll be okay with beers in the 5% range, but my buddy will be trashed pretty fast if I don't find some lighter fare.

Yes, welcome. Are you actually in Pasadena or just the area.

Thanks for the welcome. I actually live in Pasadena. In Bungalow Heaven, the landmark district, if you know the area at all.
I am sad to say I havent been to Lucky B's in a while. The IPA Fest was probably the last time I was there. A big group there would be alot of fun.

I work in Pasadena, actually live in Temple City. Have not made it to Lucky B's yet due to family matter, though the little one is getting big enough to pawn off on people now and again. Just have to convince the wife she wants to go.:)

Wow, a man in the exact same predicament as I (?) . The sad thing is my wife has forsaken me because I "enjoy beer too much" ( SACRILEDGE!!!! ). Oh well. Waiting for Dave and his next fest.

I am lucky..i also work in Pasadena, Kidspace Children's Museum, so I have an oh so awful 5 minute commute.
I also have the unfortunate circimstance of a wife who loves beer as much, if not more, then I do.
I read about a Belgian Fest within the last few months at Lucky B's in another post...I am crushed that I missed it. I am definately looking foward to the Next Fest!

I've been to Delirium twice now in the last week : ) the crowd there seems pretty cool. Had some good beers and a cigar.
My buddy just converted his diesel Mercedes to run on vegetable oil...so David is going to hook him up twice a week with some oil...very cool.

I can't stay away. Now when Patty wants to go to her mom's I have no argument. I know it means I get to go to Delirium.
Dave is getting way too much of my money...

I have an idea for a Delirium gathering. I know, Brown hates it when I gloat, but next week I "have to" go to Amsterdam again. (poor, poor me)
My cousin is willing to take a road trip to Westvleteren, so I will be bringing a bunch of it back. Perhaps we could meet at Delirium for a small tasting?
Who's in?

PLEASE give me advanced warning. I will definitely make it a point to be there. Fid.................... no comment. My only consolation is that next summer I will be there also and next Sept I am going with a group to a tour of ALL the breweries in Belgium. It just hurts when others are having fun and I'm not. Bwaaaaaaa :(

I'm in! Haven't been to the Delirium yet.
The beer gods are smiling down on me. My wife and I went down to San Diego last Sat. for the weekend. I'd been wanting to hit O'Brien's for the longest time, so we stopped in and they were having their Wet Hop Fest.
Holy shit it was awesome. You guys have to get down there next year.
So when are we hitting Delirium?:)

I haven't been there either. It's a bit away but I'll suffer. Again, I gotta know a few days in advance. PLEASE!! ( Heck, I'm not on this site every day, especially on weekends --- gotta hit Naja's ).

I'll be back on the 7th, so how about that next Saturday?
Saturday, November 12th, at 4PM?
If it is the 4 of us I will plan on bringing 2 of each (assuming they make it back, but I haven't lost any yet).
Brown, does Naja's fill growlers? Any way to bring me some Pliny the Elder?
Should we let Dave know we are plannig on doing this? Do you think he'll care?
L.H.H.H.Brown
10-27-2005, 09:56 AM
Jason fills growlers for the " family ". I would have to leave it overnight ( or go on a Sunday evening, they close early ) and then pick it up. I see no problem in that. He has the Pliny on all the time ( even though on Sun I had some and it was a leeeettle old but still good ). He also has the Hoptown DUIPA ( as of Sunday ). The 12th sounds o.k. by me as of today. Will give final outcome after my board of director votes. As for Dave ............???

Sat. Nov 12 sounds good for me. I plan to swing by Lucky B's this Sat evening, and if Dave's there I'll let him know of our plans. I'm sure he'll be cool with it.
Of course, he may want a taste himself.:D

I should have posted this yesterday, but I was too busy sleeping off the jet-lag.
I went to Westvleteren and enjoyed several rounds of all 3 of thier beers, but when it came time to leave I was given bad news... they had sold out of the 8 and 12. All they had left was the blond. They encouraged me to come back the next day when more 12 would be available, but since I was leaving the country it was not possible. I tried in vain to talk them out of at least a six-pack, but to no avail.
The good news is that my cousin is going back this week and will pick up a case of the 12 and a six-pack of the 8 for me. The bad news is that I won't get it until he visits again in January.
I'm still planning on heading to Delirium this Saturday. I like the place, and Patty and I have made it a regular Saturday outing. When I get home from work tonight I will check my stock and see if I still have a few Westys from my last trip. If I do I could be convinced to bring at least one.
Sorry for the bad news.

I still have two blonds, one 8, and about five 12s. Since my cousin will be bringing me more anyway, I figure I can part with a few.
It's back on. Hopefully Dave will loan us some of his small tasting glasses.

You guys still plan on coming?
Anyone?
hopjack13
11-11-2005, 07:53 AM
not unless they allow children, then i would only be able to have one or two beers anyways, but just one or two sips of the westy would be worth it, sounds delish! ;)

I've seen kids there eveytime i've gone except when it was later at night. I think Sierra Madre frowns on places that aren't family friendly.

I would assume it's like Lucky Baldwins. I've taken my son there several times. As I stated before my intention is to be there but............... who knows. I have 2 Rocheforts that are 2 years old that I will bring.

O.K so I am dreaming of going to the redezvous when my son gets sick the night before. I'm thinking the wife can save me .....nooooooo.... she already had other plans. BOOOOOOO!! Anyway, just so y'all know I didn't blow it off, I had to take care of my sick son. I didn't drink my belgians, just a couple of double bastards, some celebration, and 2 GB winter bocks ( NOT all at once eh! ). Hope everyone had a good time. Oh yeah, if Hopjack made it I'm REALLY pissed.

Sorry you missed it. Fid, his friend, and I had a few Belgians. Dave wasn't around so we didn't open any of Fid's bottles, but I did walk away with a couple... :)
Thanks again, Fid.
How about "Stuffed Sandwich" or "Najas" next time?
L.H.H.H.Brown
11-18-2005, 07:57 PM
Famous words......... next time. Both places are fine by me. I don't have carte-blanche at Naja's anymore :( due to some unforseen circumstances ( NOT brought on by me ) so the homefield advantage is lost. Therefore I have no preference.

Of course, but one of the guys that works there made a BIG booboo and, unfortunately, since I don't work there I got affected. Waaaaaaaaah. I think a few months from now I may be able to get back to preferred status but for now....I gotta get in line like everyone else.
