Just got back from this year's GABF. Incredibly crowded, but tried some awesome brew. It amazes me that AB continues to win awards under the Michelob brand. I am a BJCP judge and spoke with a couple of judges from the competition about this. Although, it's a blind competition, I tasted the Mich. Pale Ale and still can't fathom them winning the English-Style Pale Ale category. The crowd responded as you can expect. Anyway, the east coast did okay with Cap City, Dogfish, Old Dominion, Iron Hill, Triumph, Starr Hill, Nodding Head as well as others a little further up a down the coast winning. BTW, don't forget get your tickets for the Cheapeake Real Ale Fest at www.spbw.org

Looking forward to the Real Ale Fest. I see there were a lot of Coors products that also won awards at GABF.

I like the "Coors products" I tried, that is the ones from Sandlot Brewery at Coors Field.

They had a nice smoked beer, and one of their (I think) Silver winners was named "Most Beer Judges Are Boneheads" which was a sentiment shared, vocally, by quite a few as the Michelob winners--English-Style Pale Ale and Marzen, yep, Marzen-- were announced.

Somebody got a little sick to their stomach in front of the Miller Lite booth, creating a hazard, and when my wife reported that to a steward he said "Are you sure it wasn't just Miller Lite?"

Which I found funny.

I would have tried that one myself. How was it? I've got a Schlenkerla in my beer fridge I might just have to sample this evening. :D
