View Full Version : How to impress non Beer Drinkers

So, I brew all grain, and have had a boatload of non beer drinkers snub beer. I had a BBQ last week, at which I served a whole ribeye, slow roasted over a charcoal and hickory fire for about 5 hours, after marinating in my favorite beef sauce:

1/2 cup soy, 3/4 cup teriyaki, 5 large cloves garlic, 5 tablespoons light brown sugar, and 3/4 teaspoon fresh ginger. Place all in blender until liquified, and soak beef for min. 4 hours.

Following dinner, served homemade cheesecake, and I broke out champagen flutes, which were subsequently filled with Framboise Lambic, and heard the inevitable"I don't do beer" from 6 or 8 folks....until they tasted it.

What a success! EVERY one of the nay sayers were won over, and astonished to say the least. Now, I must admit that being a showman I had several varieties of good micro brews on hand, to which Eis Bock and Dazed and Infused were big favorites.

It astounds me continually how many people have been left behind the civilized world where beverages are concerned. This is what the Big Breweries have done, I'm sure of it. Alchohol comes from sugar, and the drink is determined from the source of that sugar I explain. Just determine what you like in a drink, and find something that fits it. In my case, it happens to be low hop rates and sweet malty flavor.

So thats why I brew my own! Spread the Cheer!

Keep those converts coming. I know a few folks who stick to their cheap swill and declare that they don't like those "heavy" beers. I think it is because they are too cheap to spend more than they do on their Milwaukees Best Light.

At my sons graduation party last June I served Dominion Lager and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Had 2 cases of each. My Ex-Wife made her husband go out and get some "light beer for the ladies". The Dominion and Sierra Nevada cases were nearly depleted the next morning but the Miller Lite was virtually untouched. So either the ladies drank my beer or had wine or liquor.

Right on target!

My Pale Ale finishes at a 1.006, and that ain't far from commercial light beers, just more flavorful, and lacks the rice fillers....

We are organizing a beer tasting/poker game next weekend, I won't have any good homebrew ready but I'll spring for some more micros.......
