I am going to start a batch this weekend and I intend to keg it and serve it to the "uneducated masses" I.E., my friends. Does anyone know of a good recipe that would tempt their childlike tastebuds without making them scurry for the hills and the familiarity of a Bud Light? Preferably something that's a partial mash as opossed to all grain. Thanks!

Pale Ale is a nice nuetral way to go. I made a Geary's clone that is absolutly marvoleous. Sooo smooth and while the hop bill looks scary it balances really well.

Partial MAsh recipe for 5 gallons looks something like this:

2 1/4 lb British 2 row pale malt,
10 oz medium Crystal (55 L)
3 oz chocolate malt.

Mash grains for 90 minutes at 150. SParge with 1/2 gallon water or until you have obtained 1.5 gallons in boiling pot. Bring wort to boil and add:

3.5 lbs M&F light DME
1 oz Cascade
1oz Mount Hood

add water until total volume is 2.5 gallons. Boil for 45 minutes and add:

1/2 oz tettnanger
1 tsp. Irish Moss.

Boil 5 minutes then add

1/2 oz fuggles

Boil 9 minutes and add:

1/2 oz fuggles

Boil one minute. Cool wort. Strain into primary and add water to obtain 5.5 gallons. Pitch Wyeast 1056.

Allow active fermentationin primary for 4-5 days then rack over to secondary and dry hop with 1/2 oz cascade.

Of course since you are kegging I would double everything and make 10 Gallons. This is a nice PAle Ale. I do this recipe all grain and it is so balanced and smooth. A good introduction to homebrewing for those amstel light drinkers

og 1.046-1.048 IBU 35 SRM 24 FG 1.010-1.012 ABV 4.5%

Good luck,

Thanks. I believe I'll give it a try. 10 gallons might be a wise idea....keep some around for myself!

another option might be something like a Nut Brown Ale, or an Irish Red Ale. The only reason I'm offering up this second option is in case you get any haze it may scare off the more skittish of your friends. A darker beer will mostly hide any haze, and also impress the heck out of your friends....

I've made both kits, Nut Brown and Irish Red Ale from Northern Brewer (http://www.northernbrewer.com/alekits.html) and highly recommend them. They're nice people, NAYY (not affiliated, yada yada)...
