I usually don't eat food and drink beer together, except on occasions when we go to Appelbee's I'll have the only good beer they serve which is Samuel Adams with my meal.

Yesterday was an exception and happen only because supper was done cooking early and I had just open a Bell's Oberon.

We were having cajun catfish and I must say the Oberon paired really well with the cajun catfish.

Now whenever I have cajun catfish and if Oberon is available I'm going to have them together. It was like adding another side dish to the meal.

i've often found a good wheat beer goes well with spicier foods. i recommend trying a schneider weisse with the cajun catfish, or even a dunkel weizen.

i recently ate at big willies bbq hut, which is a small chain of restuarants 1 in n.y/1 in louisiana somewhere and they recommended an abita turbodog with their cajun dishes, i was skeptical, but it was perfect with the bbq pulled pork sandwich i had.. i highly recommend the pairing. very surprising.

Being basically too lazy to look it up for myself, I ask: what style of beer is Bell's Oberon? And then to throw in my two cents: I find either a good crisp pilsner, or better yet a pale ale, pairs nicely with cajun spices. Not an IPA--though I really love IPAs--because that's a little too much hops in this situation. When I was back home in Mississippi, I had Hal and Mal's pale ale paired with a crawfish bisque. Absolutely exquisite. My mouth waters just at the thought...

Honestly, he probably only recommended the Abita because it's from Lou'sianna. On the other hand, if you enjoyed it - more's the power!

i'd sometimes get a blackened chicken sandwich and wash it down with the turbodog. it maybe just the concept, but there's something sort of muddy and earthy tasting about that beer that went well with the blackened chicken.

Hmm. Sounds intriguing. Down here Real Ale does an outstanding Rye Pale Ale. But it's offered year-round. A delicious beer, but I don't see it pairing with Cajun food.

i had had one before, on draft at a restuarant and i didn't like it very much,, but on this particular occasion, and i know a paler ale works better for the most part with a spicy type food.. something about the sweetness of the malt with its clean drinkability and the cooler weather, with the bbq, was a wonderful thing at that moment, and really changed my mind about the abita line.. i'll have to re-samle some of their other stuff..
