I am a newbie. My first batch of Belgian Wit came out so good I decided to make an IPA next out of ingredients I chose. All extract but here is my recipe:

1lb Muntons Amber DME
3lb Muntons Extra light DME
3.3lb Coopers Amber Syrup
1 oz Eroica (bittering)
1/2 oz Chinook (30 minute addition)
1/4 oz Chinook 1/2 oz Saaz (5 Minute aroma)
1/4 oz Chinook 1/2 oz Saaz (dryhopped in secondary)
White Labs Pitchable English Ale Yeast

So the question is.... Too much? Will the hops balance with the fairly large fermentable load? Will this be an undrinkable monster? The ABU is in the 60's according to the "Joy of Homebrewing's" guide. Is this too high or will it even out? Well I haven't done it yet so if anyone has any suggestions I could alter my plan. Otherwise... bomb's away!

Below is the results I got from a quick run through ProMash using a 60 minute boil. Style-wise it's a little outside the IBU range but hell I think most american "IPA"'s are. At least mine are ;)

That is actually a little less on the fermentables that I use. It looks like a good jumping off point for an IPA. You can take it and tweak it to your particular likes next time.

Thanks guys! I will go ahead with the plan. If it turns out too hoppy I will 1) age it and 2) increase fermentables by a pound or two next time and maybe 3) step it down a notch from the ass kicken Alphas of Eroica and Chinook. Either way I will post how this comes out.
