The last post was in July 2005? Does anyone trade anymore? Master HogieWan? I already know you want some milk wine but I have some Cherry Wheet, Honey Wheet and Regular Wheet ready to ship and I will have a German Dunkel ready in a couple or three weeks. I just looked. I still have an older Irish Stout. If it is strange stuff you all might want I can try and make up this stuff called Milk Beer.

I usually handle trades by pm. I'm low on HB for trading, but give me a month or two to get some inventory.

NP, Just thought I would test the waters. When the time comes I will remember PM.

It is a good place for collectors to post general notices.

Tweek and I did a swap recently (books for beer). I'm sure he'll be posting a review of the East Coast beers once he's had a chance to sample them. I'm sure there's other deals going on, they just may not be in the public eye.

I just was looking at the dates of the last threads.

Question: Is there a problem trading? I mean is there legal problems?

I personally don't think there is, I am not selling anything.

I think trading would be a cool way to try other's stuff and all.

I am game for trading, I should have some good fresh German Dunkle in the next 2 to 3 weeks.

I also make wine's.

Many trades are generated by threads describing or reviewing a certain beer. But it goes on all the time.

The only "problems" in trading is that USPS, UPS, and FedEx are usually pretty gunshy about allowing one to ship alcohol. So, when asked about the contents of the box, I simply say "collectible glassware". ("Really? It's kinda heavy." "Yeah, you should see it!" ;) )

Haven't heard of anyone on this board who has intentionally stiffed someone else (i.e., failed to live up to their end of the trade)... although I was given a pass a few years back when I fell on pretty hard times just after I received a bunch of beer from people. STILL trying to figure out who I might owe beer to...

If it's homebrew, you can say it's "Live yeast cultures" or do like I do and have fedex pick up the box from work. They just grab the box and don't care what's in it.

I ship wine and beer to my dad in Washington all the time through UPS and all they do is make sure Washington is a state that allows alcohol to be shipped in. I never have problems shipping.

The UPS employee that accepts your package isn't supposed to. From the UPS site:

"h) The only alcoholic beverages that UPS accepts for transportation are wine and beer. Packages containing wine and beer are accepted for transportation only from shippers who are licensed and authorized under applicable laws to ship alcohol and only on a contractual basis. To receive service for packages containing wine or beer, the shipper must sign a contract and agree to the provisions set forth in the approved UPS agreement for the transportation of wine or beer. All packages containing wine or beer must have a UPS label requesting an adult signature upon delivery. It is the responsibility of the shipper to ensure that a shipment tendered to UPS does not violate any federal, state, provincial or local laws or regulations applicable to the shipment. All shipments, including shipments containing wine or beer, will be accepted for transportation only according to the terms and conditions contained in the UPS Tariff."

If you aren't a licensed seller/reseller of alcohol (brewery, winery, retailer), UPS isn't supposed to accept the package. Don't expect every UPS outlet to be as understanding as the one you use. I've been grilled at some places in the past, which is why I have a FedEx account - print labels at home, drop and go at the nearest shipper. Easy - no questions.

Cheers!

SAME. Works just fine.

I new I was missing out all these years by not chatting on a beer site. The things I learn now and then are great.

I apprecaite the information on UPS and I can understand about them wanting to make sure of an adult signature on the other side but if you are allowed to ship out of state into a state that allows shipping, why would you have to be a licensed reseller? I am not selling anything.

Maybe it is a state by state thing? Maybe Missouri does not care?

Is it the same with Fedex? I understand that if you have a business that just picks up your packages, no questions asked but what if you went into a fedex office to mail beer and or wine? Do they have the same stipulations?

Thanks Newportstorm for the info.

Nope, it's a federal thing. The US is archaic in their attitudes toward alcohol. I think you're simply lucky to have a local UPS office that looks the other way or doesn't know the rules. FedEx is the same way and USPS will absolutely not ship alcohol knowingly.

"Knowingly" is the key word. I'd keep your shipments quiet from now on. Simply pack well, drop off and go. Don't want to draw attention to your booze boxes. I've never heard of a beer trader being fined/arrested, but plenty of shipments have disappeared or had bottles taken from them. Good luck getting compensation on a shipment of beer, should you file a claim.

Cheers!

Exactly what I did. Sign up for an account online, it's fast and free. Then just dropped it off at Kinkos.

having an account and printing the labels is the best way to avoid any hassles

Back to the trading topic. I am willing to trade a puck snatched by me in the nick of time before crossing the goal line for a beer.

I just sent some beer up to St Louis and told the shipper it was glass..

You sent some beer to STL? How come I did not get it yet?

I took everyones advice and opend an account with Fedex on line. Printed out lables and shipped out 4 boxes through Kinkos, no questiosn asked. Not bad, not bad at all. Shipping fedex home delivery was actually cheaper then UPS.

As far as trading beer for a hockey puck? With as many posts as you have on this site others might know who you are but I am still new here so I have to ask (and I do not want to sound rude) but who are you? Why would a hockey puck be worth the trade?

Seen Wort's avatar? That's gotta be him! He's the resident puckhead goalie here.

If I were his defenseman, I'D make the trade, fer sure... :)

So he is a good, ugh? Semi-pro, pro? My son is a Blue's fan here in STL and he also likes semi-pro. I guess before I move on this I better wait three to four weeks to make sure my new Dunkel is worth trading. I would hate to send something out before I made sure I did not make a skunk beer. :)
