This is being set up by members from DCbeer. I have seen prior posts about donated beer from some of our premier beer cellars in the area. I'll probably donate some beers too. Anyway, It is just getting set up. If anyone is interested I'll post updates as they appear on DC Beer.

Okay, folks, we're actually proceeding with a great game plan.

Sean Bolan's of Federal Hill, Baltimore, has offered its facility for a Saturday afternoon beer-for-charity event.

Proposed is a "silent auction" of the same rich variety of high-end beers that we have been mentioning before, wi th possible additions of breweriana, cigars, whiskey, etc. All items will be donated completely to the cause, all proceeds (including a portion of food/bar sales from Sean Bolan's) will be donated to hurricane relief efforts, probably a 50/50 split between the Red Cross and the Salvation Army. There will probably be a nominal cover charge to get in, with all proceeds going to said charities. Sean Bolan's will probably offer some donations of their own (in addition to the check they cut the day after the disaster) and put a few finer beers on draft.

And yes, you will be allowed to take the purchases home unopened if you choose.

I am asking for the following:

*Permission and cooperation from the DC-Beer administrators to use this list and the list's home page to advance publicity for this event once a firm date and time is established. We will want to get information on this out to places like the Washington Post, Baltimore Sun, Baltimore City Paper, and even Mid-Atlantic Brewing News, and possibly use the website or list to keep everyone up to date.

*Dates that work for the most number of people. I'm looking at October 1; if September 24 or October 8 works for more folks, I'm willing to deal. But we do want to 1) offer our money when it can do the most good and 2) carry out the event before people get "donation fatigue".

*If you offered items for sale, let me know again. I'm at the point where I'm trying to keep a lid on things lest too much to sell and not enough buyers show up. Also, be innovative as to offerings. Maybe a dining gift certificate? Maybe glassware for the collectors? Do you want to donate advertising services? Maybe you can put up a website for a couple weeks..........

*Pass the word. Spread the word through your channels that there's going to BE a charity beer event, and let folks save their dollars for a good beer for a good cause!
