Where, oh where, can I buy this beer in the USA?

Someone must import it. Any help greatly appreciated.

They're out there Lew - where do you live? Check this list from Beer Advocate:

The Uerige (http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1923/6355/) is a personal favorite of mine.

Thanks, I am in Connecticut. Would love an importer's name.

You could try B United (http://www.bunitedint.com/Support/consumers.html) .

This is the contacts page. Click on the Breweries link to see who they work with. They import the Uerige beers that steveh mentioned.

Good luck!

'threecb' set ya straight. And B. United is located right in CT. Bottles shouldn't be hard to find at better beer stores (Mountview, Amity, etc.) and bars like Eli Cannon's and Delaney's might see specialty products like this on tap. Keep you eyes and ears peeled.

Prost!

Lew, Alts or Alt-style beers (much like Koelsch) are difficult to find in the US, but one micro that makes one is in Ocean Twp NJ, the Heavyweight Brewing Co. It's called Stickenjab, and is pretty good. I don't know if they distribute as far as CT, but if you go near the Jersey Shore anytime in the future, you should be able to find it easily in Monmouth or Ocean counties.

Both Frankenheim Alt & Diebels Alt are also available in the USA.
Diebels isn't brewed in Dusseldorf, but it's still one of my favorites! ;)

Dear Lew,

I am happy to tell you that a local Long Island brewery you may or may not have heard of is brewing a Dusseldorff style Alt. The Southampton brand beers and specifically the Southampton Secret Ale. It is a SICK!! beer. Not to take anything away from Heavyweight's Stickenjab, also a sick beer, but the Secret is awesome and should be available in stores around Conn. Check out the Southampton Publick House's website for more info at Publick.com. Peace, and good luck!

Every year the August Schell Brewery brews a beer called Snowstorm. It's a different style every year and this year it happens to be a Dusseldorf style alt. I've had a few this week and I really like it. I've never had a Dusseldorf so I don't know how it copares to "real" Dusseldorf.

Not that it's a bad thing, but Southampton actually brews this in Saratoga at Mendocino's facility. And yes, it should be found in CT.

And though not from Germany, take a drive up 91 sometime to Brattleboro, VT. Not only are there plenty of breweries/brewpubs to hit along the way, but McNeill's makes a fantastic Altbier:

It has been a long time since I thought of McNeills. Glad to hear they are doing well. What about Latches down the hill from Ray's place? Is it still operational? The Owner Ann Latches was also the importer of Xingo Black Beer, If I remember correctly.

I have very fond memories of Diebels Alt in Germany. Somehow, it just isn't the same when it gets here, though.

I would like to give a draft account a try, if I could find one.

Still there, but not sure if the ownership/setup is the same. I'd heard Berkshire Brewing Co. wanted to get in on this place - looks like they have:

Thanks! I think it has been 10 years or so since I last stopped in Brattleboro. Looks like it would be worth a new Vermont tour. Although I would skip Bennington's Madison's Brewpub. It was not that good and I had to talk my way out of a parking ticket. Come to think of it I think I got a parking ticket in Brattleboro too. Hmmm maybe it's me...;)

Trying to recall where I went on that trip.

Burlington Pub and Brewery
Otter Creek
Long Trail
Jasper Murdock Norwich Inn
Catamount
McNeils
Latchis

And Madison was a separate trip.

I think Magic Hat was just opening up back then.

Catamount had a great tour. McNeils had a girl who was tripping on LSD at the bar. Long Trail had excellent beer. The ambiance at Jasper Murdock was the best (McNeils was good too.)

If I recall I also visted 7 Barrel brewery in NH on that trip

Vermont Pub & Brewery?

Catamount is gone - brewery bought by Harpoon who brew their 100 Barrel Series there, among others.

Madison, eh? Next time, drive straight through Green Mtn Forest to Wilmington and visit the Maple Leaf. Small place that just remodeled - decent beer last (only) time I was in. BTW, gotta love the owner of Madison attacking reviewers on PubCrawler. Classic.

Cheers!
