I just got a note from the good friends at Rock Bottom in Arlington, they've brewed a special anniversary ale to celebrate their 6th anniversary. Here's the description:

"a Belgium-style Wit and is subtly spiced with coriander and orange peel. Being low in alcohol, and slightly tart help make the "Anniversary Ale" a true session beer.

We hope to see you Tuesday, August 30th at 7:00pm for the Mug Club pre-tapping, and/or September 1st at 7:00pm for the official tapping of Rock Bottom Arlington's 6th Anniversary `Anniversary Ale'..."

Sounds more like a summer beer to me than something for the fall, but in Virginia, it may still work since it seems to stay hot around here until the first snow fall.

Haven't decided yet. I am a "mug club" member, but have never really taken advantage of it.

Week night trips to Arlington from where I am (the Burke area) are a pain in the @ss. On top of that, my wife really likes the food at Sweet Water, and we are kind of in the middle of the Merrifield and Chantilly locations, making a beer-focused night out very convienient for the two of us.

I've also heard their tapping nights are crazy. Have you been to one?

would going on the "mug cllub" night make a difference, or will that be pretty crowed as well?

I'm in Centreville. I can get to Cville Sweetwater in 6-7 minutes. Old Dominion is about 10-12. My office is on Little River Turnpike and the Beltway so I can get to Merrifield SW in about 10 too.
My main problem is I don't want to drive after I sample. So if it is for dinner then my wife will come. a tasting is another thing all together. I have to find a ride.

In my experience, the "private" events are less zoo-like than the usual parties. As a Mug Club member, I often go for the $2 beers and (usually) free appetizers, as well as the chance to pigeonhole the brewer and ask questions.

Yeah, it seems that getting to places is never the problem, its getting back.

Being on LRT, you're also close to Shenandoah too.

Having a 15 month-old has also cut into my sampling time dramatically.

So how is this place?

I'm hoping to get a job right near there. Interviewed today, and really wanted to stop in afterwards, but it was only 11am. They have a cask-conditioned IPA which sounds nice.

I made a trip to Total Wine, so I'll make up for it this evening.

Hey Derek, Have you been to the Wine Seller in Herndon? Near Hard Times? It had been at least 10 years since I was in there but they used to carry a number of craft beers and some homebrewing supplies back then. I was HT on Tuesday evening and the cask was dry:( I had a Smuttynose but not sure which one because all they could tell me was it was Smuttynose. LOL. (It was a pale ale.) I think the Wine Seller is still around the corner.
