I'm a first time (virgin) brewer. Today I was bottling by beer and I had to taste it. My question is what is it suppose to taste like?
Flat beer? Im not sure and a little scared because I have been telling all my friends about the beer and they are expecting it in about two weeks.

Tes, it would be very flat. You put it in the bottle with more fermentable sugar to carbonate it. make sure the temp where you have it sitting is around 70 drgrees or it could take longer than two weeks.

Its at about 73 degrees and it had a little bite to it when I was tasting it. I hope it was due to lack of sanitation. I cleaned everything with bleach and water

Did you rinse well? Bleach can impart nasty flavors to beer. In the future you would be netter off going with a no rinse sanitizer. You should find some where you buy your brew supplies.

The taste should have had a little bite but some sweetness due to the priming sugar. You did add more sugar, yes?

Yes about 3/4 cup into my bottling bucket then added the fermented wort

I was afraid to rinse because the water where I live taste like rusty pipe water.

Did you brew with this water?

Green beer, beer that still needs to mature some, will often have a "yeast" bite that will settle out when the yeast does. But bleach is bad stuff for beer, you really need to rinse it or you will be drinking pool water. Chlorine really sucks for beer (I think toneyc will back me on this). If you are afraid to rinse your bottles with your water, try bottled water and StarSan (or Iodofor). It may take a little more time, but 1 gallon of water and 1/4 oz of StarSan will sanitize a full batch worth of bottles.

Im guessing that the "bite" you are referring to is just the hops in green beer. Almost every single person I have ever come across complains about the bite in the first green beer they have tried. the beer just needs a little time to "blend" that hop flavor with the malt and yeast flavor. It will probably be fine, I wouldnt sweat it.

I'd give it at least three weeks - sure you'll want to pop a couple after the 2 weeks of carbonating, but waiting another 1 or 2 weeks will really help the flavor

Thanks but that seems to be bad news to wait a extra 10080 minutes away. The pain i go thru for (hopefully) GOOD BEER

It only gets better. I would venture a guess that no one on this board will say that their first beer they made were their best beer they made. Stick with it and your rewards will be bountiful.
