I'm going up with family in a few weeks and I don't know the area at all. I am specifically looking for a beer retailer/distributor that sells good beer near Cape May. More than anything else I am on the hunt for Bell's beers. Can anyone recommend someone -- even in Delaware or PA that is on the way?

No Bells Products in NJ. I don't know about PA/DE.
AFA Beer availability in CM, it's not a very good area for beer. The liquor store that's right by the end of the Parkway, before going over the bridge into town might have a decent selection.
I'm not sure which way you're coming in, but t off of Parkway exit 4A towards Rio Grande is a Joe Canal's. Other Joe Canals locations in NJ have a decent selection, but I wasn't in this one.

Thanks. I suspect we are going by ferry from Del. which means PA -- where I know Bell's can be had -- is out.:(

The ferry is what I figured you'd be doing. Bummer for you.
You'll pass right by the liquor store by the bridge, but I'd go out
of the way to Joe Canal's if I were you. It should be no more than a 15-20 minute round trip.

Coming from the Ferry - There is a shopping center on the left with a BIG LOTS and a Chinese restaurant that has a liquor store with some good beers. I think it is the second one you pass and is not the shopping center with the movie theaters. If you get to the Parkway entrance you have gone too far. You will enjoy Cape May but keep in mind Lewes on the DE side is a 10 minute ride to DFH brewpub or brewery.

Green's in Wildwood, NJ had a good selection of Micro and Import beers, this was a little over a year ago. Just a 10 minute drive from Cape May.

Greens isn't bad, but Joe Canal's is definitely better now that they're down there.

Bell's needs to expand to the DC area. Especially No. VA.:D

Bell's was in the DC area for many years but Larry yanked distribution here and elsewhere maybe 6? years ago because of distance from the brewery. Plus, Total Beverage was doing a truly shitty job with the product and causing him big headaches. That's what really sucks -- I used to drink the amber, the brown ale, and his cherry stout frequently and then one day... gone.

I don't recall seeing them other than at the Brickskeller. I'd be happy if just the Two Hearted was back.

I remember getting the Bell's too. I was always bigger fan of their stouts, though this many years on I can't recall the taste of any of the other beers.
Bring back Bell's!

Got more info re Cape May. Turns out we are staying very near the beach and will pass Collier's Liquors on the way to our place. Anyone know anything about Collier's Liquors on Lafayette Street near West Perry?

Looks like they stock a good wine selection. Worth calling. Ask for a beer manager and run a few craft beer brands by them. If they have a clue to what you are talking about, you could be in good hands. If they stammer, give repeated "No's" or there is dead silence, hang up and search elsewhere.
Cheers!

Thanks, and I did call. Unfortunately it sounds like they have what I can get down here: Victory, Dogfish, F-Fish, etc. I'm looking for oddball stuff like other PA, NY and NJ breweries including Heavyweight, for exampe, although I can get that down here too. Thanks for the link, tho.

Thanks for the website Newport. I've been in that place before. Very limited. I think the best you might find is what I posted about earlier in this thread:

I'll second chazwicke's suggestion above. I was in Cape May about 3 weeks ago, and fortunately for me, this place was right across the street from my sister in law's place (where I was staying).
They didn't have a LOT, but they did have some good beer. I spent the week with a sixer of Paulaner and a few bombers and singles. They had DFH Pangaea (which I like), the DFH 120m IPA (which was awful)...they even had the Raison D'Extra, which I kick myself for not buying, because when I came back later in the week, it was gone. They had a handful of Unibroue bombers, too.
This place wouldn't have cut the mustard if I lived there year around, but it had plenty to keep me busy for the week or so I was there.

I'll be passing through there on Saturday afternoon. I'll be headed south down the Parkway and across on the ferry. I'll be trying to make time but If I have an occasion to stop, I'll check it out again. And try to get the name.

Chaz,
Spend the extra $5 and make a reservation on the ferry. We waited 1.5 hours to get across two weeks ago.
As for stores in Cm, nothing new to add. Have fun at the beach!

I would but I'm not even sure what time I'll be getting there. I'm dropping my son at school in Bethlehem, PA between 9 & 12 tomorrow Morning. Then I'm dropping my wife at the train station in Trenton and I'm off to catch the ferry and spend a couple days in Ocean City. I'll have some friends of mine that are coming out on Saturday evening to hang out and enjoy some beer. Any locals gonna be in OC this weekend? Feel free to stop by.

Okay, I'm leaving for Cape May tomorrow. Based on someone's suggestion I called Joe Canal's in Rio Grande. According to some not so bright guy there all they carry is Dogfish, Victory, Troegs, Otter Creek and that was about it. None of these are worth a special trip and in fact all are available in Cape May from, from, uh... crap I just forgot. It's just outside Cape May, anyway I know where it is.
Surely there is a better supply than this somewhere. Where would I go to get beers from Heavyweight, stuff from NY micros, hell... even Flying Fish which I don't much care for. Is the guy I talked to for real or has somewone on this list been there and can comment on this. Help!
