Dean the brewer at Leesburg's brew pub Thoroughbreads is leaving that post to brew at the Balston branch of Rock Bottom. At least according to the rumor on DC beer. A friend of mine who regularly visits Thoroughbreds says that he thinks the beers are just OK and that has been my impression when I visited. Balston's Rock Bottom, on the other hand, has some great beers.

Is the quality of the beer more reflective of the brewery or the brewer though? Could a change of brewer result in a change in quality?

Then from that announcement, I would be expecting a reduction in quality at Balston's Rock Bottom.

I'm not certain that that is true. Thoroughbreds is less than a year old and it's brewer was at Old Dominion before. So it might be something to do with equiptment or even management. I'm not sure. I noticed inconsistancies in TB beers. I'm hoping that teh beers at Balston will continue to be good or get better.

I guess one shouldn't jump to conclusions. Although the brewer is obviously an important factor, it's not the only thing that can affect the quality.
