Wed. August 24th we will be having a tapping party for the 1000th batch brewed at Capitol City Brewing Co. in Shirlington. We brewed a Double Amber Waves Ale named "Double D". From 6 to 8pm we will be giving away free samples of this beer out of a cask along with a 15 month old cask of Wee Heavy, brewed by Bill Madden. We will have some free appetizers to soak up some of the big beers. On tap at the bar will be the "Double D" along with some well aged Slobberknocker( barleywine). Some good beers, some free beers, and free food. See you there.

Got a question about last night...first off, great beers. I really enjoyed the Slobberknocker barleywine, strong, but a great beer overall. My question is in regards to the first cask that was tapped, it was a dry hopped porter but what was the actual name of the porter, or for that matter does it even have a name. I really liked that, and to be honest I am not a porter guy. When they did get the Double D tapped, it was a great contrast to the porter and slobber that I had earlier in the night. Anyway, does anyone know the name of the porter?

I had to bail at the last moment. :( I had to pick up my car from the shop in Tysons and it was already about 7. So I figured the casks would be gone by the time I got there. The posted times were 6-8. Glad you enjoyed it.

Are you sure it wasn't Madden's Wee Heavy, as mentioned at the start of this thread? Who told you it was a porter?

It must be nice to be able to bail on an event like that. I'm 2.5 hours away from any cask and you have enough around to pass up a special cask tapping. Must be nice.
BTW - I'm going to the Abita brewpub next weekend! Finally get a shot at the cask brown ale!

Yeah, I am pretty sure it wasn't the Wee Heavy (although I did taste that and did enjoy it as well). The porter (I think) came from a cask that was mislabeled. I believe they thought it was the "Double D". When they discovered the mistake, it was announced that what we had been drinking was a dry hopped porter (again, quite tasty I must say:)), and then they tapped the real "Double D".

A "bonus" cask -- very cool!
(I only asked because you didn't mention the WH in your initial report.) Sounds like it was a good event. I would've liked to try them all, but especially the Slobbernocker.
