I'm taking a trip up to MA in a couple of weeks and will be visting the Amherst brewery. Has anyone been there? What can I expect?

Have not been there but let us know how it is. I'm planning on attending the New England Beer Fest in Boston at the end of October and will be making a brewery tour of much of the area.

Here's some insight.

Haven't been to Amherst Brewing, myself, but that whole area is ripe with good beer bars, brewpubs and breweries.
The Moan and Dove, Northampton Brewery, OpaOpa Steakhouse and Brewery, Paper City Brewing Co., Barrington Brewery, Berkshire Brewing Co., the new Pittsfield Brew Works and more.
Lots to choose from - enjoy your time in a beautiful part of New England!
Cheers!

Amherst Brewing is a solid brewpub. They've got a nice selection of beers, which right now may include their seasonal Heather Ale, which is brewed without hops. I recommend their ESB, and everything I've tasted there is quite good.
Northampton Brewery is also supposed to be good, but alas I have not been there yet to verify this.
Cheers!

I have been to Northampton and enjoyed a few beers there on a very cold January day. They were also solid beers. Great Barrington is a nice pub also with decent beers and fairly good food as well.

I was there last summer. I liked Amherst, but thought that Northampton was better, both food and beer.
Moan & Dove is within walking distance from ABC, and worth a stop.
On the way up or back go out of your way and go to Hyland Orchard/Pioneer Brewing in Sturbridge. And pick me up a case of Farmhand and whatever seasonal is on! It's a production brewery with a tasting room. They're making some good brews and the Farmhand gets my vote for the best summer brew I drank this year.
Enjoy the trip!

I highly recommend the Northhampton Brewery. It is a sister of the Portsmouth Brewery in NH which is top notch. Check to see if they have the imperial stout on tap - fantastic stuff (at least in Portsmouth). Enjoy!
Oh, and while you are in Amherst...please pay respects to Mike's Westview Cafe, Time Out, Charlies, The Spoke, Barsalottis (the "Bar in a Bus"), Twisters, and the little Chinese restaraunt next to the pool hall that made $1 mixed drinks and didn't id - I don't think they served beer.

We were only up in MA for the weekend so we spent Saturday eve in the Amherst brewery. Great selection of beer, the smoked porter was my favourite. And the food was good, too.

I am always pleased to find smoked beers on offer. Although they are not always good.
