Are you asking the most consumed brand or style? I believe the Czech Republic recently overtook the lead in most beer consumed per capita by any nation. So my guess is that Pils may be the most consumed style, especially since it's very popular in Germany as well, and most American Light Lagers are lumped into the Pils category too.

AFA most popular brand? I imagine that AB Budweiser, Heineken, and - now - Guinness are near the top due to their wide distribution ranges.

most consumed brand is what we want to know.

my money was either on Bud (perish the thought) or Heineken as well.

Sad, but true.

But then there are more McDonalds consumed than haute cuisine meals; more tabloid newspapers read than quality broadsheets; more TV soaps watched than Shakespeare plays.

If you want to sell a lot of product you need to make it appeal to as many people as possible - and that usually means dropping its standards to appeal to the less-selective consumers.

....which goes a long way toward explaining the success of the Spice Girls, no doubt... but oh yeah - we're here to talk about BEER....

I had my suspicions, but sometimes I still despair for this world.

WAKE UP PEOPLE!! Life is TOO SHORT to drink bad beer! And Richard, I'll admit that sometimes I have to give in and swing through the McDonald's drive-through - when I don't have the time to grill up a center-cut pork chop and throw together a rice pilaf - as I'm planning for this evening's supper. But I WILL NOT compromise my beer standards!

It means taking out any flavor so that it will offend no one. AB has the resources and purchases the finest ingredients such as hops but refuses to add enough in to reach the taste threshold. I have heard that Buds IBU level is around 10 and the taste threshold for hops is 12. Can't have those that may not like hops tasting them and the same with those who don't like barley malt. Or corn and rice for that matter.

I have never tried Bud Lite, but my brother in law, who was recently working at Orlando airport, went out most days with the American teams members for a drink.

The bar they used had only chemical fizz (and he didn't know where to find an alternative near the airport - any ideas for his next visit?) so he was obliged to drink Budweiser. He told me that "Bud Lite" tasted rarher like fizzy mineral water with a slice of lemon in it. Was he exaggerating or is it really that awful?

Richard, your brother-in-law was being kind about Bud Lite, he'd be better off ordering the mineral water. Please don't waste your time seeking it out!

I don't know Orlando at all, but I'll bet someone here will be able to suggest an alternative for your b-in-law.

We had a German team come over to the Austin plant for a year assignment. One day we saw them unloading their groceries from their car and they had a couple of cases of bud lite. We asked why in the world did they buy Bud Lite and they replied that they didn't like the taste of the water in Austin.

Bud is the best selling beer and that is no great surprise. Most people drink beer for the buzz or the look. They care little for quality or craftmanship in their beer. We are a rare, but growing, botherhood. My wife, as I sit here and sip on my Mackson's XXX is gulping down her diluted, rice-laden Michelob. I have tried DESPERATELY to show her the light. I have let her taste some of the world's greatest, and while acknowledging a slight difference in taste, she insists that beer is beer. That is the opinion of the masses, I'm sad to report. I cringe every time she throws a pack of Bud into our cart at the store. Cheers to the mates who know the difference.
