And with my 50th post, I'm proud to pass on the following info from the Old Dominion Brewery:

"With the end of summer in sight, Old Dominion proudly presents our 2005 Octoberfest. This seasonal special is a traditional German Maerzen-style lager. All German malt is accented by subtle Noble hop character, with a stunning dark orange color that recalls the changing leaves of autumn."

I enjoy it in a bottle, but love it draft from the brewery. Looks like a trip is in order to Ashburn VA. Can't wait to fight the Redskin Pre-season traffic.

Wow, it's coming out really early this year. Any idea when it will hit retailer shelves?

I'll have to sup some when I return my empty sixtel. Thanks for the heads up and congrats on 50 posts!

Waaay too early. Summer has a strong grip on the midwest, no way I'm thinking about Oktoberfest. Yet.

Oktoberfest is getting to be like Christmas anymore. Pretty soon the new Oktos will come out in November.

July?

In the case of Oktos, November is significantly earlier than July.

How so given that O'fest generally falls between the end of September and the first of October? Did you mean November nearly a year beforehand?

That's what I was trying to get at. Like advertising Christmas in January.

Well, I just stopped at a local grocery store and they were putting out Halloween Candy. If I can get Candy Corn, I sure as heck should be able to wash it down with a fine Marzen beer.

I saw some sixers of the O'fest at my local beer store last Saturday...I wasn't in the mood for it and just assumed it was left over from last year...maybe it is out already? Hopefully they changed up the recipe, as I didn't care much for last years.

Oh, puh-leeze! The first Oktoberfest is tapped on the second-to-last Saturday in September and their should be no imbibing before then! I mean, really - you guys probably all open your Christmas presents on Christmas Eve too! ;)

HarkJohnny

Okay wait...GB has a Märzen they make available year-round, and a Festbier for Okto season...so which one did you actually get? ;)

S.

I think they only bottle the Märzen!

This is something my dad would never allow no matter how we pleaded to "open just one."

Based on the amount of beer I got for Christmas last year, I'm going to try and start earlier. I'm still working my way through a case of individuals from Norm's in Vienna VA, a case from Pittsburgh Brewing (makers of Penn Pilsner). Not to mention a dozen or so other imports I got from various people.

Perfect! Due to some out of state relatives coming to visit, our family Oktoberfest has been pushed up his year to that exact date!

Does "checking on the progress" of your lagering O'fest count as "imbibing"? ;)

It does if, when you reach September 17th, you discover you only have 2 glass-fulls left and you have to run out for Leinie's Okto! ;)

Hey - September 17th is also the date of the Great Lakes Brew Fest, coincidence? Parbably not!

I've now been to several retailers in search of OD O'fest to no avail. Has anyone actually seen it? I haven't and no one seems to believe it is out already.

I did not notice last time I was in the pub. I was too busy drinking the cask dry hopped NRPA. I wish they would put NRPA into sixtels. The Hop Pocket Too. Wonder if they have any info on the website about the Oktoberfest.

I got my OD Octoberfest email again this year on 1 AUG and was arguing with my wife that they keep releasing it earlier. I guess she was right, since I started THIS post on 1 AUG last year. Still think it comes out too early.

I gotta enjoy the summer before i start thinking of Fall brews! I got the notice from OD too. It was almost as bad as seeing the back to school ads on TV for me. I still to this day hate it when they are shown. I hated thinking of going back to school.

If oktoberfest is in sept, there is no reason to not release them in august - it gives me time to get some in trades before october comes around

The kids seem to like getting school stuff out of the way. The young one actually plays "school" at home... Course I have nothing to do with that. I dont even know where you can by pencils anymore. And as for Christmas Im the guy who is still trying to get things mail ordered by the 23rd.
