View Full Version : Liquid Solutions' "Beer of the Month" club

Well, I know some folks have reservations about these because who knows what you're gonna get. But it looks like Liquid Solutions has put together a beer of the month club of their own. Given their access to and appreciation for great beer, this looks like it might actually be a good deal...
You basically pay $30, and in exchange you get $30 worth of beer (or more -- this month's was $34 wroth), in either 12-ozers or bombers. Here's some of what they sent out with the first shipment:
Hair of the Dog, Mad River barley wine, Deschutes seasonal Twilight Ale, and the Skagit River Dutch Girl
The problem, I think, is probably in shipping. I priced shipping to DC and it's like $40 by itself, bringing the grand total to around $70. A little prohibitive for me.
But if it weren't, I'd probably do it.

That and the MR B'wine and the HOtD products are available here anyway. The only thing really worthwhile, IMO, was the Deschutes.

And I'm not that certain that I'd want a barleywine this time of year either. It has been darn hot and humid here.

If someone poured one of those BWs for you, would still be whining?

I might. I'm not a huge fan of barleywines to begin with. I like them on occasion.

Kate, I've been tempt-tempt-tempted myself! But as you say the price is prohibitive. I've bought some great beer from Liquid Solutions and the shipping has been as much as the beer !
Derek, wish I had it so good; we don't get a very big selection of beers here so trying something new requires a drive of, at least, 45 miles and, preferably, 96 miles, so that does make this idea all the more tempting.

And with gas prices these days you'll end up saving money!

I've been a member of a couple of these beer clubs and they are expensive but can get you stuff that you would probably not be able to find locally (although here in DC that is getting to be hard to say)
The biggest pain in the butt though is the shipping policy. Both Fedex and UPS need to get an adult signature or they can't leave it. And because they need an adult signature they inevitably try to deliver at 2 in the afternoon.
Then you wind up driving to the distribution center in some awful interstate off ramp locale - and you have to take half the afernoon off anyway because they only keep office hours!

I used to have them shipped to my office. I always found that I could get 50 - 60 % of what they sent anyway. Way back over 10 years ago when Beers Across America was the only club I once got a shipment of beers from my local brewery Old Dominion. LOL!

That's a good idea if you can arrange it. We both work at Federal sites (my wife at an extra secure one) so that isn't an option for us. Security would probably ship the package off to be tested for anthrax and then blow it up for good measure.

LOL! You can have it shipped to me. ;)
I no longer belong to any of the BOM clubs. I have mixed feelings about them. sometimes I liked what I got, sometimes I felt ripped off.

Hehe...picture Theakston running in slow motion, as the beer is being blown up, yelling "Noooooooooooo".
I have beer and wine shipped to my office, too.

As someone who can't get a lot of different beers, I've considered doing one of these, the the shipping cost kills it. I'll brew my own, thank you very much.

If you are in a beer desert then BOm clubs would be a good deal. It's just that we can get plenty of good stuff locally. Hoagie I would probably consider it if I lived where you do.

Like I said, I've thought about it, but it cheaper and more fun to brew my own and get something different on a trade. The paint store I go to has a great import selection, just lacking on micros.

Tell us more about your imports - maybe there's something you can get that many others can't, and you can orchestrate more trades that way. :)

I think I'm making a trip by the paint store tomorrow - I'll post a short list

Sometimes I miss homebrewing. I miss the heavenly smell, the bubble of the airlock, and the final product.
I emailed the guy with the brewery that was on Ebay but he never responded. I should have bought it when it was on Ebay.

Today I will gladly share my knowledge and experience,
