Yesterday morning I picked some blackberries up by the barn to make a blackberry pudding. That went well, but I still had a gazillion berries left and didn't want to just shove them in the freezer to be forgotten.

So what to make? I found a recipe for a blackberry cake, and as I began putting the ingredients together I started craving one of our wheat beers. Strangest thing! So once the cake was made I had a piece after lunch with the wheat beer and they went together beautifully.

I don't know if it was the taste of the berries or the smell of the spices, or the summery-ness of the whole thing, but I will definitely pair blackberries and wheat beer again in the future.

(Like this afternoon when I get off work and TRY to catch the end of the game....Johnson and Clement and I have to work. What a world.)

Didn't Lennie's used to make a summer brew with blackberries? Whoever it was, I remember it being pretty refreshing.

Wrong game - that was last night. Clement stunk today - Sox made a comeback but it was 7-4 when I turned it off in the 7th. :(

There are several Blackberry Wheat beers out there. Here's a few:

Back in black! (http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/index/date/all/blackberry+wheat/)

And there is one from LongTrail that is readily available in the Northeast. It's not for everyone:

Blackbeary Wheat (http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/94/3636/)

There's even a Blackberry Pilsner mentioned as being available at Flat Branch. Ever see it?

Baa, Baa blackberries (http://www.flatbranch.com/beers.asp)

Cheers!

I have not seen it, but will look for it next time I'm there. I guess wheat and blackberries just go together, huh? Who knew?

Poor Clement. I'm hoping it was just an off day....Bad timing with those you know whats at Fenway. Grrrrrrr. Ah well, I'll have a slice of blackberry cake and a wheat beer to cheer me up. (Barely) :(
