This beer has been discussed because of being new to the LF family, but no one had tried it yet. I picked up a six pack over the past weekend and have been sampling a little bit at a time.
The color is bright gold, with a white head that thins quickly - the beer is quite light on carbonation.
The nose is clean and light - dominated more by malt than hop, but both aromas are present.
The beer is certainly tasty, if not a bit thin in body and flavor. It's a clean beer with mild malt and hop flavors - reminiscent of the Bitter I tried in England. There is the slightest of citrus in the nose and flavor. According to the LF description, this is due to the strain of yeast used, which makes sense.
Overall a good, light, and refreshing Summer brew, but it will win no praise from hop heads. If you're expecting a Sierra Nevada type of Pale Ale, keep moving down the shelf. However, if it's a counterpart to Pete's Summer or even Goose Island's Summer you might crave, the Cattail might suit you well.
