My husband and I were at Goose Island tonight and had this wonderful Wood Aged Midway IPA. It is aged with apple wood chips and whole glacier hops, with 6.9% ABV. Boy is it good! Unfortunately they were out of cask conditioned beer tonight (and it was my birthday, too!), and the waitress was trying to get me something that is very close to cask conditioned beer. She was right. It is just wonderful. All you Chicago area people might want to try some.

Thanks for the heads up. I have been waiting for this one to finish aging. I was just at Sam's across the street last night for a tasting and was going to stop into Goose but already had my fill at the tasting. Looks like I am going to have to make a trip back this weekend.

Happy Birthday Kalleh!!! That beer sounds delish! Do you remember the Bourbon Stout that we had at District Chop House? That one was aged in wooden barrels.

Do you remember the Bourbon Stout that we had at District Chop House? Oh, yes, I do! This was smooth tasting just like that beer. The waitress described the "apple taste," and I worried that it would be a really strong taste, but it wasn't at all.

Happy B-day Kalleh! I was so excited about the Midway finally being on tap I overlooked your mention of your bday.
I think the Midway IPA is aged in new oak barrels where the bourbon stouts are aged in used oak barrels that were used to age bourbon already.
FYI - Future Goose releases in bottles.
Aug 15th - Matilda
Nov 15th - Imperial IPA
Dec 15th - Bourbon County Stout

Do they bottle that or just serve it at the restaurant? I need to get my hands on some. My other love is bourbon so I have grown very fond of beers aged in bourbon barrels. It seems to be one of the new popular trends for micros.

It is only available at the brewpub. It is a very nice brew.

Brewcrew, I suggest that you go out to DC and taste it. It really is exceptional. It tasted so smooth and had a hint of bourbon. I'm going back there at the beginning of August (for a conference) and very much want to go back there.
Thanks for the birthday wishes, Chaz and Brewcrew. We must get together sometime, Brewcrew!

With all of the Chicagoland people on this board, we should organize a get together at one of the local pubs.
