I can get them open and and closed but admittedly I struggle a little bit. There has got to be a trick to it or a proper way that doesnt involve such a hassle.

What I do is use a screw driver and put it in the little notch, then pry the top part of the lock ring out, then the rest comes out easy. Then putting it back in I feed it around, this gets harder as it goes and even once done requires some pushing to get it to seat all the way.

Can anyone shed some light on the fast way to go about this?

Thanks.

Spend the dough and buy the Sanke keg tool or make one.

believe it or not when we would have a keg with a bent or broken spear we would sell them for scrap or to the homebrewers. It was cheaper then trying to fix them.

You can also come down here to my brewery and I'll do it for you. Or I'll make you do it. :D
