Is Coors Extra Gold sold anymore? I can't seem to find it anywhere. What makes Extra Gold different from Coors Original?

Thanks

BAH

Here you go...

http://www.coors.com/brews/extraGold.asp

You may have to work your way through the "age detector" (what a waste of time), but you'll get there. I'm going back to CO in August; if you can't find any by then and you're just DYING for some, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Haven't seen the Extra Gold in years. I think it was discontinued about 8 or 9 years ago. I don't even remember seeing it before leaving Colorado.

I know I saw it here in Ohio two or three years ago. Someone told me once that it had a little more body and flavor than Coors original. Hmm....sort of like being the tallest midget, I guess.

It's not THAT BAD... jeez... I still think that Coors is the best of the Big Three - at least they TRY to make good tasting beer. Extra Gold is a little tiny bit richer than original Coors. I'd give it a solid C in taste. I'd STILL prefer a Sierra Nevada Porter, but, well, YOU know...

Coors used to make a seasonal brew called Winterfest; I remember liking that a LOT. Haven't seen THAT in years, either...

A dubious distinction for sure - yes, it *is* that bad - right up there with the best of the swillsners.

I was gonna mention that back in '85 or '86, when the Winterfest first came out, it was a pretty decent brew. Then it, too, slowly became a thin shadow of its self.

Even for those of us who do not care for Coors, there is an awesome book called "Citizen Coors". I just finished it, and they discuss all the above plus much more. Extra Gold is their "super" premium and Winterfest (eech!) was only brewed for the staff Christmas party. Anyway, if you have a chance to grab it, I give the book excellent marks.

I think the Coors Winterfest sold to the public for about 10 years (84 - 94?), in limited supply during the Holiday season. It started off as a pretty decent, full bodied, malty brew for the first few years, then became pretty mundane.

I wonder if they still brew a special batch around Christmas for the employees? If they use that original recipe, they probably can't handle the extra flavor!

You are correct, not sure why I put only for the staff, I meant originally for the staff. I have not seen it on shelves for the last two or three years.

HA! i used to have a paper route from ages 12 - 16, somewhere in there i stole my first case of beer (COORS EXTRA GOLD) from a customers garage.. it is still sold in NY everywhere..

remember BUD DRY? the last time i saw that was in 96 or 97 in arizona and even then i was thinking it was pretty old school.. do they still make that? i remember it being not so bad as far as swill goes.. but i agree with fret - if i'm drinking swill i'll pound the coors before anything else

ahhh come on, its what beer drinkers drink when they're not drinking beer... there's just something novelty about splitting 2 - 30 packs between 3 guys and throwing the empties all over the place and kicking the dog when you lose your bets on the game:D

even *IF* i tried to drink BMC i know i could never finish the bottle/can/glass , the taste is that repulsive ,disgusting, foul, loathsome, nasty, noisome, repellent, repugnant, revolting & vile to me.

you know, bud and molson actually (and i'm totally serious) make me gag out loud (my friends think its funny) - i wonder if its the hops? - it truely does repulse me, and i am no fan by any means of macroswill but, i'd be lying if i said i NEVER EVER have one.. i mean i dont intentionally seek the stuff out when having a beer but cracking an ice cold watered down low alc. coors light mid summer while playing basketball or something is acceptable, and i'm quite a beer snob..

more or less, depending on how much i've had will determine which side i land...heh he he he

my uncle always does that $#!T to me! i'll walk in and he'll hand me some swill, and i'll get through maybe the first drink or two sucessfully and then pretend to drink, holding a warm beer for the duration of my visit. which is why i usually bring my own, so he won't offer. sometimes it'll be an emergency of some sort (usually a electrical problem) and i'll show up unprepared

You know, I had my extra Sam Adams Light from my holiday taster 12er, and it really wasn't all that bad - FAR better than anything AB or Miller or Coors is making these days. If you want a "basketball" brew, try turning your buddies on to this stuff instead. The "light" moniker on the label will most likely make them feel right at home. :D

I wholeheartedly agree. While I wouldn't buy a 6 pack of SA Light, I have no qualms about drinking the 2 that are supplied in the holiday pack. For a light beer, it has very good flavor, IMO.

And Fret, I know you'll disagree with me here, but I really don't have a problem with the Cranberry "Lambic" either. It certainly is my least favorite of the SA line, but it's not THAT bad. Actually, I think the taste has improved somewhat since I first had it 3 or so years ago. I did not care for it back then. Maybe they changed something, or I've gotten more tolerant of it.

Still wanna get rid of those, Fret?? :D

Well, I used one in a beer bread that didn't turn out quite like I had hoped, but if you think they've improved, maybe we'll work something out. Where are you again?
