This from Jim Dorsh:

I haven't made a gratuitous, self-serving announcement in a while, so:

We'll be holding an All-American Beer Festival at Whole Foods Market
in Annandale on Sat 2 Jul. Details at http://
www.americanbeermonth.com/events/index.php. It says Arlington, but I
think you get the idea. Without making any promises, since you never
know what might happen, we expect to have beers from Oskar Blues, St
George, Stoudt's, Mendocino, Clipper City, The Raven, Lancaster,
Brewery Ommegang, Stone, Widmer and Shenandoah, plus our private
label Lamar Street Pale Ale, made at Goose Island.

We should be getting some fun new beers this week, including Van
Hansebrouck Gueze Fond Tradition; Weyerbacher Heresy and Prophecy;
Avery Samaels (I know nothing about this one other than it's
expensive), Twelve and Karma. I also have a few bottles of Russian
River Damnation and Dogfish Head Liquor du Malt (with complimentary
bag). Again, I now work at the Annandale store.

Once again, Greg Kitsock and I will host the Beer Gazetteer for the
Smithsonian, starting Jul 11 at the Brickskeller and running six
consecutive Mondays. This year we'll feature Russian River, Elysian,
Sly Fox, Boscos, Great Divide and Goose Island. I understand we're
all set for volunteers. Details at http://residentassociates.org/com/
beer_gazetteer.asp.

Hey - just a little off topic - what's the big college in Annandale? It's not William & Mary, is it? There's a Steely Dan song we cover that talks about it called "My Old School", and every time I play that I wonder about you guys on the East Coast...

I know and like the song. Wrong Annandale though. The only large school of higher education is Northern Virginia Community college's main campus.

Check out Annandale, New York.

I'm betting it was Bard College they were referencing.

Steely Dan also reference the Crimson Tide of Alabama in the song Deacon Blue.

Steely Dan was a crack band.

I pass right through there every day on my way home from work! I love the Whole Foods beer section! Woo Who, a new place to stop off for something good at the end of a hard week!

There's a Harris Teeter near there too which always seems to be the first to get the ODB seasonals in.

Just found out Harris Teeter is opening a store in Dale City (don't know the ETA) at PW Parkway and Hoadly Road.

I like the Whole Foods chain. usually a decent beer selection and also some great cheeses, olive bar, and fresh breads. Also a nice meat selection too. I've only been in the Harris Teeter in Fairfax and was unimpressed with the beer selection. Likewise the Trader Joes in Fairfax. Total Wines, Norms, Ricks, Sutton Place Gourmet, and Whole Foods seem to have the best selection in NoVA. Or we can cross the river and visit the beer mecca....Chevy Chase Liquors.

I have yet to visit either Wegmans location yet. Sorry Wort!:(

Harris-Teeter has an OK beer selection, all things considered. Actually just recently the location at Pentagon City, where I sometimes shop when I don't mind battling the mall crowd, started carrying singles of Wychwood brews, which I love, especially the Fiddler's Elbow. But sometimes it can be hit and miss.

For those of us inside DC, there's going to be a new Harris-Teeter built right in my 'hood, on Capitol Hill, around 14th & Penn SE... should give the hideous UnSafeway down the block a good run for its money.

I love Wegmans - above and beyond what they may or may not have on the beer shelves. Actually wasn't too impressed by their beer selection in fairfax - although the wine area in the basement puts all other grocery stores in the area to shame.

Wegmans had a "home-made sub shop" at the ODBF this past weekend. From what I heard, the subs were great, big, and only $5.
