OK folks, I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this one, but I have to ask anyway. I want to enter two of my beers in the state fair this year. Rules say, however, that the caps on the bottles must be plain with no markings whatsoever. Well, of course, both brews have caps with very colorful designs, as well as my personally, permanently applied "identification system" on them. As far as the idea of removing the offending caps & recapping with plain caps, I am of the thinking that I'm screwed and to forget this insane idea. This is OK, of course, I'll just enter different beers next year. Am I correct on my thinking?

Perhaps there's a way to make the existing caps more plain?
I'd try...
Sanding off as much as posible
OR
Using a sharpie or some thing to cover the current adornment
OR
Painting over the existing cap
OR a combination of these ideas might do it. Paint could come out messy but a little sanding and a marker could result in a solid color.
Is there someone (organizer of the event) that you could ask questions? You may not be the first one to have this problem.

Good luck with the entry!

magic marker over the top is usually acceptable, but id ask the organizers anyway

Try it. It takes just about anything off. Sold in many hardware stores. Look for the yellow cans where the paint strippers and stuff are at.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I contacted the dude that is the head of this thing and he said putting marker over the caps is ok.
