This from Jason Oliver:
I just want to let everyone know that I tapped a Kolsch at Gordon Biersch DC
yesterday. It's very dry with a firm bitterness and semi-fruity aroma. It
should be a good beer on these hot humid days. Also Hefeweizen is year
round now and not just our summer seasonal. This years summer seasonal is
GB's award winning Czech Lager which will be on-line at our tapping party on
Thursday June 30th. I should have some overlap with the Kolsch and Czech
Lager so along with our summer friendly house beers of Hefeweizen and Golden
Export there should be plenty of good summer beers here to choose from.

Excellent!
I enjoyed GB when I was there and would definitely like to Czech out the Lager.

Um, Kölsch is a German ale - though technically sort of a hybrid since its secondary is a cold-storage/lagering type process.
Who's gonna try it and give a review?

SORT of a hybrid? I thought it was by definition a hybrid.
But what does hybrid mean exactly. It's still a top fermenting ale yeast. So why wouldn't it just be considered an ale? Just because you condition it at a lower temperature doesn't change the definition of the beer.

They not only will be featuring their Kolsh but also their rendition of a Czech Lager. I hope to try both. Cap City is also known to make a mean Kolsch.

Yeh - guess I did. I was blinded by the thought of a good Kölsch!

Up until last year the BJCP didn't consider it a hybrid - I can't get used to calling it anything but a German ale. So what if they bring the secondary down real cold?

I guess because they sort of use the 2 different procedures - as I said, I can't get used to calling it a hybrid either. Then there's steam beer that goes in the opposite direction - lager yeast at ale temps. Notice that there are 2 hybrid categories: light and amber. You'd think they could create a dark hybrid too, with Baltic Porter. Maybe it's because it's already called "Porter."

I had the kolsch at the San Jose GB a few months ago and it was quite good. I forgot that they were coming out with a Czech lager. That should be on any time out here. Gonna have to go check it out.
