View Full Version : Bottling commercially kegged beer?

My first post here, hope you all can help. I did search the archives and recent threads and didn't see this addressed, so if it's an often asked question, I apologize.

Anyway, we had a keg of a local micro (Mac & Jack's African Amber :D ) for a party this past weekend. I overestimated the number of attendees though, so there's a fair amount left over.

My question is, is it possible to go ahead and transfer this beer into bottles. I don't have a co2 hookup for it, only the standard tap attachment, so I don't have the ability to regulate the pressure like I would with a homebrew keg.

If I transfered the majority of the beer at once into a bottling bucket like for my homebrews, would that be sufficient? Will it stay carbonated? Or should I just try to drink the rest of it myself over the next week?

Thanks for any help.

You would need to rack this to bottles using a CO2 setup and a counter pressure filler if you planned on doing as little damage as possible to the beer. Going to a bottling bucket or using anything other then CO2 to move the beer will lead to oxidation and stale beer.

If this beer was served at the party using a standard air tap then there is no use in saving it at all as the oxidation damage is done already.

You could fill some growler type containers like micros and some pubs do. They need to beconsumed within 24 hrs though for best taste. If you had some containers like this, you could fill and give to friends.

Other than that, call in sick and start drinking.

Sounds like a reason for a Monday night party to me.

Yeah, as the monkey ssid, you're going to have to drink that REAL soon or it won't be worth drinking.
