I'm in houston for the weekend - we're staying in an apartment near the galleria - is there any good beer store close or brewpub not to miss?

I'm usually only in Houston for business so I'm not a great help with this but....

Central Market in Austin is a little underwhelming selection-wise(compared to other choices in Austin) but is not bad; maybe better than what you're used too. Worth a visit.

Definitely hit the Gingerman - good selection of beers on tap(not as good as Austin's Gingerman but nothing to scoff at).

If you make it to Austin one day send me a PM - I'll hook you up right.

The Central Market was real close to the apartment we were staying at. The people with me weren't exactly beer geeks, but one of them does enjoy good beer (he was the one I split the larger bottles with). The selection of imports was not what I'm used to, but the domestic micros were everywhere. We grabbed a sixer of Fat Tire (which I'd never had) and 20 ounce bottles of Sam Smith Pale Ale, Franziskaner Hefeweisen, Arrogant Bastard, and Anchor Porter. I had never tasted the ABA or the Anchor.

We drank a couple Fat Tires the first night before giong to see Star Wars (HUGE theatre with great sound - WOW)

The next day, everyone tasteed and enjoyed the Hefeweisen, - we had it right after coming in from the pool - perfect time for it.

After dinner we found out that the Sam Smith was skunked - I educated the group in the skunking process and let everyone take a whiff - then I dumped it.

The Bastard was not what anyone was looking for in a beer. To the amazement of some, we finished it, but I don't think either of us would ever have another. First thing i thought was, "Who the hell put grapefruit juice in my beer" that flavor was way to prominate for me. and I don't like grapefruit.

The last one poured was the Anchor. Beautiful - that's all I will or need to say.

I noticed the longhorn in the avatar, so figured you've at least spent some time in that state. We just went for a couple days and no one in the group I was with is near the beer geek I am. I wanted to visit a brewery or something (we were just a few minutes from St Arnould's), but it didn't happen. Oh well. I still haven't visited Abita right down the road.
