Hey guys, I know many of you have made a blueberry ale before but upon searching here I haven't found a single recipe.
Does anyone have any suggestions. I was thinking of just finding a simple wheat recipe and adding some blueberry extract to the secondary. Is that all it takes or is there something else I should look out for? A better method perhaps.
I'm looking for a lighter beer, a wheat beer or something along that line. This will be a 5 gallon all grain batch.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

last summer when I was in Boston for a conference me and a few other guys were suppose to swing by a brewery near redsox stadium for some blueberry beer. They were saying how good it was, never made it to the brewery but you might know this brewery I'm talking about an swing in for some tips?

That was probably Boston Beer Works. There's a location literally right behind Fenway Park.
They have some decent beer, but it's kind of hit or miss. I had one there that was so ridden with an off flavor that I couldn't finish it.
I didn't have the blueberry, but several people around me had it in a taster, and they seemed to like it. The bartender put 3 little blueberries in the glass. I don't know about you, but I think that's a little strange.

I'm making a blueberry ale right now... Started with a golden ale base and I'll be adding 3+ lbs of blueberry puree ($13!! at my LHBS) at the secondary. I've been reading Ray Daniels "Designing Great Beers" and he states that some brewers will 'steep' the fruit after the boil is complete (as the wort is cooling-you'll get sort of pasteurization since the wort is above 140*F to kill off the nasties - but the aroma compounds aren't destroyed as boiling would do) Blueberries are mild flavored so he recommended ~2# fruit per gallon. I'm thinking of getting several pounds of frozen blueberries to augment the one 3.x# can of puree... (I'm not sure how much the frozen berries would be, though if they are >$4/lbs it would be cheaper!!)
Cheers! Rocket

Speaking of blueberries, does anyone knoe how much fermentable sugars are in pure blueberry puree? I didn't find an answer in CP or Ray Daniels' "Designing Great Beers"...
I'm trying to estimate the OG...
Cheers! Rocket

Yeah that would be Boston Beer Works, I agree its hit or miss although I have had their blueberry and it is pretty much what I'm looking to make. The only problem is that I'm not sure they'd give out the recipe since there are several competiors in Boston. Also the brewmaster isn't usually there.

watch that blueberry its overpowering
8 lbs dry wheat malt extract
1.5 oz tettnanger (boil)
.5 oz tettnanger (finish)
1lb malted wheat
3lbs frozen blueberries
american ale yeast
3/4 cup corn sugar for bottling
the trick is to make like a framboise do your primary fermentation once it stops rack it and add the berries your gonna get another fermentation. Let that do its business, rack it again let it clarify a little, wheat beers are hazy so dont expect it to be clear. re pitch with fresh yeast before ya bottle.
