I spent the evening in Cedarburg, WI recently. I thought it might be a bit too upscale for my tastes but and was pleasantly surpised to find it a first rate town for bar hopping, with lots of hard drinking locals (much more so than I). It is home to the Silver Creek Brewpub, which is housed in a gigantic old mill with a small beer garden othat is perched on the side of Cedar Creek. A very nice setting where I enjoyed their Hoegarden Witbier, very good! They also had a great selection of guest beers. A half a dozen other bars in town (C. Wiesler's, some Irish pub, RJ Thisty's, etc.) most of which were either well preserved or restored, with antique backbars, stone walls, tine ceilings, etc. Most had great local stuff availble, Sprechers, Louie's Demise (delicius), New Glarus, etc. Anyone else out there have fave WI drinking towns?

I've heard good reports about Silver Creek in the past...need to take a ride soon.
I guess if I needed to be pinned down on a favorite Wisconsin drinking town, Madison would win, though New Glarus has some cozy taverns - and I can't discount Kenosha, Racine, and Milwaukee because they're in my back yard!

There's a few decent bars here in Manitowoc, but with bar on almost every corner, you have to know where the good ones are. Courthouse Pub is a decent brewpub, but as far as spending the night there, the atmosphere is not quite right. But 2 blocks down is a bar called Capone's. They have a great selection of beers and are one of the few bars in this area who sponsor the Beer Festival here in spring. Which reminds me, does anyone in this area make it here for Beer Lovers Brewfest? 25-30 microbreweries, and some homebrew clubs showcase their beer, and a good night of beer sampling, beer conversation, and later guzzling. All for $25. Always a good time:D

one year the fishing was very slow so me an my buddy when for a drive.
We started near Birchland...thats in the middle of no where, a hour east of Rice Lake
Drove up the Brule and then cut along the Superior's south shore where we stopped and had pizza and crappy beer at a bar near Cornucopia.
We then drove to bayfield and drink decent beer at Maggie's.
Then we drove back towards the cabin and stopped at Stone Lake where they had even better beer on tap.
Luckily, all that driving made us pace ourselves, and eventually we got back to the cabin and drank a couple more Capitol ambers.
