Anyone in the IE area been here? I've lived in Upland my whole life (except for the last 4 years i've lived in Irvine for school) and I never went to this place, even though its about 2 miles away. Kinda looks like a redneck dive bar but my friend said the beers are good so we're gonna go check it out tonight.

See this post. (http://www.realbeer.com/discussions/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4398&perpage=15&pagenumber=2) This was my opinion last year.
I have only been once, but it was a bad enough experience that I will not venture there again unless I hear a good report from a trusted source. I heard they have new management...
I look forward to your report. I hope they are better than I remember.

Alright, my review of the place.....
First off, I've been by the place many many times, just never been in, so I kinda knew what to expect as far as scenery goes. Personally, I didn't like the atmosphere, or the looks of the inside. The type of crowd was really not my thing... seems to attract older "necks" and high school dropouts/ losers, generally not the type of people I would normally be around. Anyway, me and my buddy sat in the front portion which is open to the outside, because the inside smelled like a very heavily chlorinated pool. From about 10-12 they had a rock/metal band set up in that little room and playing right in front of us... can you say ears buzzing??? So it was either sit inside a smoke filled room that smelled like pool chlorine, or sit in front of a really loud/crappy band....... we picked the latter.
So.... for the beer.... I started off with their Pale Ale, because my friend who decided we should go there told me he had their PA before and it was "Awesome!- It didn't have that weird aftertaste like the ones at BJ's." Well, in my short beer loving history I have found BJ's Pale Ale to be one of the best. I wanted to tell him- Yeah thats the hops buddy, but whats the point? I did not like the taste of Old Baldy's Pale Ale. There was something strange about the taste... something that reminded me of the first scotch I had... a charcoal like taste somewhere in there.
Then we got their Kolsch.... "Blonde"... I tell ya, I don't think my tastebuds were dulled from the PA either, but this thing had NO taste whatsoever. I mean, Bud Light has more of a taste than this thing. On to the next beer..
I had just a sip of the IPA and I'm not a big IPA fan as it is, but I have enjoyed Lagunitas and SN Celebration Ale and my thoughts on Old Baldy's IPA were that I would not want to have any more.
Lastly, we got the Heffe. This I thought was the best out of our choices, although it still didn't seem to have that tart/wheatey flavor I've enjoyed from Pyramid or Sierra Nevada. But If I had to drink any one of these 4 beers it'd be the Heffe.
I definitely wont be going back there.

Many moons ago I was told to stay clear of the place. Glad to see I didn't miss a thing and thanks for being the guinea pig. At least you'll have a second Lucky B's soon, not too far from there.

Any word yet on when Delerium will open? I leave for Scotland on the 29th, and I was hoping it would open before then...

Envious?
This is actually the first year we won't be visiting the in-laws in Amsterdam. I certainly love Amsterdam, and the close proximity to Belgium which allows weekend trips to Brugge, but I figured it was time for me to explore some other parts of Europe. I'll be in Scotland for 13 days, Wales for 5 days, and London for 4 days.
I might run out of space in my beer journal this year...
Don't worry; I'll be home just in time for the IPA festival at Lucky B's.
Fid... counting down 11 more days...

Well, he's disappeared for the time being... but his last 6 posts have been about him leaving for Scotland, once a day, so, you know...
Not that he's not allowed to boost his post count - Lord knows I don't have any talking room!
I just want him to go so he can get back and tell us about his wonderful time!

My sentiments exactly!! As for him disappearing, he's usually busy and I'm surprised he's written this much. Then again, to rub it in...........

Sooooo,
I actually got back about 3 weeks ago, but I hadn't got around to posting again until tonight. The trip was AWESOME!
Scotland was certainly the best part. We were in Edinburgh, Sterling, Perth, Inverness, Aberdeen, Braemar, and Ballater. I drank sooo much scotch in the higlands, the locals converted me. I am definately a scotch fan now. The haggis was also quite delicious. Of course, the beers was good too. I had plenty "real ale" while I was there.
Cardiff, Wales was OK, but not a highlight. London was pretty cool too, but I'd take Edinburgh over London any day. The people were way nicer.
Anyway, I'm glad to be back. I missed the IPA festival at Lucky Baldwin's, but I'm heading to the Oregon Brewers Festival in Portland next week. It'll be good to be home!
