I'm at work and have been fighting a down server for the past couple of days. I'm just a lowly computer tech and my boss is at a conference in Vegas. My other boss knows nothing of computers - we have two businesses and the bosses are brothers, one business is printing and one is computers. Anyway, the boss who is here, just came by and handed me a can of Bud Light. I have to admit, I winced a bit as I took the first sip, but I think I can enjoy it.

Anyway, Cheers

PS - I've got Turbodog at home to wash the taste out of my mouth.

Quick, quick, turn and run from the light. The light will lead you to the land of the bland.

In fact, I'm having a second, but again - there's better beer at home.

Pour the bud light in to the server.
That will get rid of both your problems for the evening.

justin's reply was perfect.

i was at a wing joint the other night and apparently crud light was the special... when the waitress informed me of this I winced and made a face, then ordered a SNPA (the best beer they had on their list) and that was that... later when I went back for another she remembered me and poured my SNPA right off. :)

My boss actually likes good beer, but he's a cheap bastard. He's pretty interested in homebrewing but that upfront cost is still deterring him. I'll think he'll eventually bite and a get the equiptment.

Please note the avatar... As far as beers at an establishment goes, you can do far worse than SNPA. I had a few tasty Oberons last night at BW3 watching my beloved Pistons lose. :(

I think if it's hot enough, anything cold tastes good... Good thing there's always air conditioning here. ;)

I'd rather drink the Bud Light. The last Turbo Dog I had, as well as the ones prior to that, were horrible. We had a tap room just north of our brewery and we had 12 guest handles in addition to our 12. I would turn back Abita beers left and right as they would show up in old Hoff Stevens kegs with funk growing out of the bung.

I will say though that I am jealous as they were the first brewhouse to have one of the Steinecker Merlin systems.

Hmmmm.... Maybe this explains the excessive swilling in Florida. Or is it just the dumb rednecks?

probably both, but moreso the latter

Brewmonkey - I agree that abita beers are pretty lackluster, but I've always liked turbodog. Never had it on tap though, just bottle. TD is a brown ale that is fermented as an alt (with alt yeast)

Maybe I should try Turbodog again then; the first time I did I wasn't thrilled. Not too long ago in NO I had an Abita Amber from the tap. It was darned near undrinkable, but from the bottle it's reasonably decent. Dirty tap, perhaps?

Haven't had a Abita in a while, since moving out west. I was never knocked over by them but found the turbodog to be drinkable though I never had it on tap.

As for the bud, sometimes you have to do what you have to do, though 99% of the time I will take water.

I took a sixer of Abita Amber to my old hippy friend's house a couple of months ago and the the first thing he said after he tasted it was "That's it!!!" He was very excited. He says that's exactly what the old Shiner Premium used to taste like. He has been pining for that beer for years.

Questions please. Is he a hippy who has reached advanced years? Is he a friend who is/was a hippy you have known for some time? Are/where you a hippy and have you reached advanced years like my older boy tells me I have?

Well all you can do at this point is try to wash the taste out of your mouth, and try to wash the memory away. There is perhaps a way you can mitigate the chance of this ever happening again.

Perhaps a small investment in the donation of a batch of home brew to the office will ensure that the next time it happens, there will be something slightly more pallatable than Bud Light in the fridge at work.

And if the boss sucks them down too fast and asks for more, you can kindly offer up the recipe ;)

It's been a while since I've worked at a place where beer was acceptible on long workathons. But in my last place of employment, we always endeavored to make sure that we kept the "emergency" fridge well stocked.

It also made for great ad-hoc parties in the office at 5:00 PM on Fridays. Ahhh... the dot.com era.

Right acoross the street from the brewery, actually we shared the parking lot, was a small software company that made satellite imaging and GPS tracking software. They would mosey on over at the end of their day, about 3pm, and sit at the bar for a few hours. Every know and then one of the younger guys (21 or so compared to the "OLD" guys of 30) would come over all in a panic needing a keg "right now!" for the party that just broke out.

I used to laugh at them when they would do that. Then they sold off to a very large company out of Redmond Washington and they disappeared. Those guys were always a freaking riot to shoot the shit with and for being a bunch of self proclaimed nerds they were good guys.

I only allow good beer in my office. The lowest that can enter is Yuengling. My office fridge usually has several choices but Dominion Lager is a standard. I also gave each employee a nonic imperial pint glass out of the new case I ordered. I'll have no one drinking from the bottle.

I would have passed on the Bud Light.

He is a hippy in his early 70's that I have known for some time. I was never a hippy, I'm just a geek in my early 40's. "Put on my jacket 'fore you get too old."

I was just curious as i don't encounter many people who still have contact with a hippy. That is cool your friendship has endured these many years.

You are approaching what my boy considers advanced years.

"He's an old hippie and he don't know what to do,
Should he hang on to the old, should he grab onto the new"

I'm only 40, but have been acting like an old fart since about 25:D . I probably would at least have cracked open the Bud Light and had a few sips, just to be neighborly. No rule that you have to drink it all.

I'm 47 and feeling old. I am just recouperating from my Kidney stone surgury. Seems this time it was much more painful than the last time. Might be my age catching up. (He says as he gingerly sits on the edge of his chair.)

So THAT'S where you went! How did everything go?

And how long until you can have a beer?

Painful! If you have been watching Deadwood it might give you a hint. They went in where nothing should ever go in and actually had to go through the bladder, ureter and into the kidney because the stone moved back in. I was knocked out for the procedure. But there has been a lot a pain since. Slowly going away. I have a stint in me that will be removed in a week or so. I have been drinking lots of water and cranberry juice. No beer yet. But I stopped the percocets too. Last time I had the stone broken up sonically and that was way less invasive. I'll choose that route next time. This was much worse than I had thought pain wise.

I've brought homebrew to share before, and everyone liked it, but if I leave anything here, it'll be gone quick. Besides, as I've said before, I sorta enjoy a Bud every now and again. If anything, it reminds me how good my other beer is.

 OUCH! That was the most painful TV I ever watched outside of American Idol! Here's to some speedy F-in' recovery, you F-in' CS!
(Seriously, may you be consuming a beer in relative comfort soon)

Apparently I'm a grower or "stone farmer." I've had two previous bouts. One I was able to pass the other two were too big.

I've been told that if you have one, you have a 50% chance of another within 5 years and 70% within 10.

I had a bass student who had had 2 stones by the time she was 16. Crazy!
