Some friends and I visited INdy last weekend. I was actually quite suprised at the really really good beer available.
We visited 4 brewpubs, 3 of which were downtown and less than a couple blocks from eachother.

Alcatraz- Chain outfit out of San Fran. All pretty much lightly hopped lightly colored selections. Nothing fantastic.

Ram- Chain store, decent beers however. HUGE big screen for sports guys. Enjoyed their Porter and the Wheat selection.

Rock Bottom- also a chain. They had an ESB on cask which was good. Normal selection of beers.

Broad Ripple Brew Pub- Really damn cool. Dark homey environment 2 selections on cask. Lots of little nooks and crannies to sit in. If you go to Indy you absolutley have to stop by. There's a homebrew supply shop right next door too.

There are also a lot of really great bars in town. Apparently there's on that specializes in Belgians but I didn't find it.

Glad you enjoyed Broadripple. That's always a favorite stopping point for me.

Ram is the same as Bighorn Brewing Co. around here - their Total Disorder Porter is wonderful!

If they don't serve it in a frozen glass... There are 3 Rams in the Chicago area, I've found that if you can get to the bartender before he/she pours your beer into a chilled glass, the beers are palatable, though nothing spectacular.

Good to hear that Broadripple is still going strong, I haven't had their beers in a long time.

'Round here, they know full well what they're doing and wouldn't DARE serve it in a frozen glass. I think that's reserved for the biker bars and Ruby Tuesdays. ;) I really enjoyed their Okto last year.

Bruno, South Bend is hosting the Naba or ABA (I forget which) for their annual Breweriana convention in early August. I think it is at the Marriott. I have been reading about it in one of the monthly mags. (I'm a member). They have also been running lots of articles on old Indiana breweries. And I think they said Michigan City at one time was the town with most bars in the country probably per capita. I think Eau Claire, Wisc. may now hold this distinction.
