Not side by side, mind you, but together - BEER FLOATS!!

Here's a review of the experiment (http://3fingersalute.net/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=2)

We used to sell brownie stout floats in the pub when I was working there. They were a pretty big hit, especially when we made the brownies using stout.

Gee, we've posted on this a few times in the recent past. I love dropping a scoop of good vanilla into an Oak Barrel Stout - coffee is also excellent, and I've even enjoyed pumpkin! Porter makes a good float also. I wouldn't try it with some of the brews they used in the article... you need a fairly well-bodied brew.

Stout floats are a regular menu item at the Pizza Port establishments in California.

Think I'll go have one now!

I tried the whole beer float thing back in the late 70's and didn't think to much of it. Of coarse I did it with an American lager so what can one expect. After reading this thread I decided to give it another whirl with my own stock. I put a couple scoops of vanilla in a mug and proceeded to pour in some of my own Russian Imperial Cinnamon Raisin Oatmeal Stout. Wow! It's really good! I'll be serving some of these up at the breweriana show I'm going to this weekend.

I just purchase some Stoney Creek vanilla Porter and the taste is chocolate and vanilla, however it also has a bitternes to it that throws the taste off. I told the wife I bet it would go great on some ice cream to mellow out the bitterness. She looked at me like

Now that's what I would call a great Sunday Morning drink! To heck with the Danish!

Yes we have done threads on this before.

I have only tried it once and it was fairly recently. It was with vanilla ice cream and the stout at Church Brew Works. I put a little bit of stout on the ice cream in the bowl. It did taste pretty good.

I see the rated Negra Modelo the highest. Hmmm.

And I think one guy was biased against stouts.

i've never loved putting beer and ice cream together (tho i have never actually put one into another--that sounds good). anytime i eat beer and ice cream the ice cream really kills the beers' taste. and if it is a hoppier imperial stout like old rasputin, it just doesn't seem quite perfect. i think maybe a sammy smith's imperial stout would work well though.

All this talk about making floats and sundaes - who, besides me, has actually made Beer Flavored Ice Cream? :) Did it with a Guinness many moons ago - great stuff!

So did Emeril. I made mine using Sam Adams Cream Stout, and it is AWESOME. Taste is similar to Coffee Ice Cream, but it has something extra that Coffee IC doesnt (it is a much richer coffee flavor). Be careful, its kind of rich.

PS fretless, what did the Guiness IC taste like?

I haven't tried yet but guess that day is coming soon. Ben and Jerry have a beer ice sorbet in one of their recipe books.

A couple of years ago, our paper ran an article on beer floats.

I have a bottle of Old Engine Oil in the fridge. I might try making a float out of it. My favorite flavor is Mint Chocolate Chip, anybody have any idea how that would go? Or should I stick with straight vanilla?

I made Guiness Extra Stout ice cream for the first time this weekend. Excellent! I let my Mom and Dad guess at the flavor and they both said "coffee" with a rather perplexed look. Everyone that tried it seemed to like it. Fantastic color too.

Beer 2: Guinness Type: Irish Dry Stout
Comments: Guinness is wickedly strong and is an acquired taste.

lame bud drinkers! they don't know what they're missing... which means more for us that do. :D

Well, there are a few Mint beers out there with some decent ratings. One beer and one scoop of ice cream are worthy of your experiment.

Mmminty! (http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/index/date/all/mint/)

Cheers!

Let us know how this works out. I have a few botttles of the Harviestoun OEO too. A fine beer.

"BIGRED" posted the recipe on page 1 of this thread. It's the same one I used.

Where'd those comments come from? I suppose if it was the Foreign Export Stout they were talking about they'd be right on, but if it's the draught that's scaring them - someone ought to slide 'em a Rasputin!

Okay - I see it now. The funnier one is the Murphy's:
"Beer 3: Murphy's Irish Stout Type: Would call it more a lighter ale than a stout."

If you enlarge the picture...you see that it's actually a bottle of Murphy's Red - duh. She blinded me with science.

I always liked Thomas Dolby. "One of our submarines...."

"Aliens Ate My Buick" was the best album.

But it doesn't have anything to do with Beer and Ice Cream...

I made a Guinness Ice cream a few years back, and it was indeed stellar! I will also have to try sometime soon a stout float, maybe using Murphy's. A nice, sunny, hot afternoon sitting out on our patio with one of those... MMMMMMmmmmm.... :)

My comment was more sarcastic toward the "scientific" mood that web site is trying to pass off...

I know... I just figured that since I was guilty of perpetuating the hijacking of the thread, I'd drag it kicking and screaming back to the topic. So, my bad! ;)

And I'm glad that someone else didn't care for Fischer beer, either by itself or to prop up a scoop of ice cream. Cool swing top bottles for their "amber" lager, really bad beer. Too bad!

Can you make ice cream without the ice cream maker machine thing? What's the old fashioned way?

I found out how to make it with liquid nitrogen and power tools (http://docbug.com/blog/archives/000233.html) but maybe there's something simpler
