Last year, Beck's commissioned a survey that found when men ages 21 to 54 were asked what their ideal gift from a loved one for Valentine's Day would be , beer ranked No. 3, behind dinner and a card. Beer beat out traditional Valentine's Day gifts such as a box of chocolates, bouquet of flowers or a plant, jewelry, a tie and a singing Valentine.

A tie, a singing Valentine or beer? That seems pretty simple. We figure that the people who hang out here would rather have beer. But what about giving beer or making beer part of your Valentine's Day celebration. Anybody had success on that front?

Do you really have to ask? ;)

Ditto!!

Besides, beer has been helping ugly people have sex for thousands of years!

It depends on the beer. Warsteiner or Guinness would mean more than Bud or Busch. Sorta like giving your loved one a Hershey bar instead of a fancier cchocolate. That was how my wife explained that Hershey bars were not Valentine romantic.

Beer and romance....

Beer and peppermint candy suck. Beer and Wendy's hamburgers (the only fast food I like) suck. I have found little else that doesn't go well with beer. When I first met the woman who was to become my wife on the internet I think I was drinking a Harp Lager or two.

All I know is that when my date on the second or third time out tried Old Foghorn ane really liked it, I asked her to marry me right there on the spot. She did, now as my wife she keeps after me to keep our homebrew supply in good order. Also, when I found out she was pregnat with our first child, I put up a barley wine. So, instead of handing out cigars, we toasted eith barley wine. It was a bit young but I thought a novel and fun idea.

my girl drank miller lite and corona when i met her. slowly, i got her to drink yuengling, then sam adams, and so on.

then she got me my homebrew equipment for xmas. (did i mention that i love her?)

now, she loves things like sierra nevada and all kinds of local micros, not to mention homebrew! i watched her drink a sam adams triplebock with out flinching and thought, "my my, she certainly has come a long way!" i'm so proud!

Well I met my wife in a pub in London. She was working in London for a few months (she's from the USA). It was her second day in the country and she wanted to find out all about British Culture. Seeing that I was drinking an unfamiliar dark foamy substance ( a pint of mild ) she asked me what it was I was drinking.....2 years later we are married.

If I'd been drinking Bud I'd probably still be single and definitely would not be living in the USA. We met in 1989 and we are still in love -- with each other and with beer (and with our dog called Theakston).
For our 10th anniversary she took me to the holy grail -- Belgium.
Life is good.

This is a great thread!

My wife rarely drinks and then only wine or wine cooler. She used to complain bitterly about how much I spent on beer. Then we discovered homebrewing and now she helps me pick out recipes. The only time I've ever seen her drink a whole beer, it was one of mine. So now we make mead, too. Last weekend, we started our first batch of cider and our first batch of cyser. Yeah, life is good.

My first wife liked cheap red wine. I thought I could change her, but I guess it's sometimes true what they say about that ol' leopard and it's spots! I'd feel guilty if, when away on vacation or wherever, for seeking out places with real beer. A decision needed to be made...

My current wife (the love of my life) and I have been to over 100 brewpubs together, and she's always willing to seek out new brews. And, she supports my pint glass collecting habit!

I've definitely found the right match!

my wife is a porter fan she really likes the smoked porters she also likes stouts a whole lot. anything lighter then an ale she calls foo foo beer. it's nice to have someone you can try new things with (like beer) i don't ever go out drinking with the guys, most of my friends are swill drinkers. i can go to the beer store and pick up different beers and try them out with my wife at home. it's much more fun then going out drinking. she's also very supportive of all my beer trading and enjoys tasting them with me. when we do go out she likes to make sure they'll have real ale wherever we go , and doesn't mind driving around a bit to find a place. life is good with good beer , and my wife is great .

Huh, what? Beer ranks 3rd, behind dinner and a card ? Shocking. I'm a woman, but in my books a fine beer outranks a card or dinnner (ok, maybe not dinner at a brewpub, but still) any day of the week. Fortunately, my hubby-to-be is aware of this peculiarity in my personality...

As for beer and romance, why of course! I've had some devastatingly romantic encounters with beer in/at hand. Just talking beer with my loved one rates up there with a walk in the park, hand in hand, on a snoozy Sunday afternoon. And if you're doing both simutaneously...now that's love!
