I am looking to acquire Cruzcampo beer, a tasty beer from Spain. Its parent company is Heineken. It's becoming quite the search to find it. I found a post from another board that a person bought a case of it from Liquor Direct in Southgate, KY. I can trade any kind of Kansas City beer or cash if anyone can find it.

Welcome to the board. Did you drink this beer while in Spain? Please tell us a little bit about it.

Thank you for the welcome....I enjoyed this beer immensely while studying in Spain...like with most beers, people have a wide variety of opinions on its taste. I found it to have almost an almondy aftertaste, which I found pleasant. I spent time in Spain about 5 years ago, and this has been an on-again, off again search for it. Unfortunately, I could only bring back 2 40 oz containers with me. (I didn't have room for anymore) Apparently, Heineken had talked about bringing it to 23 states, but I never found out if that happened. Mostly, I am looking for this beer to rekindle memories, share experiences, and for a great taste.

If it is available in the States, someone here will know. Good luck in your search.

I found it served in some restaurants....
Grizzly's
Quencher's----both in Chicago
And a place called La Tasca in the D.C. area...

So far, it seems like Cruzcampo is distributed to restaurants...I found a distributor who only deals with businesses in Illinois.
So close, yet so far away.

I live in the DC area. If anyone has it it would possibly Chevy Chase Liquors. Here is their site:
http://www.chevychasewine.com/
Contact them and see if they have it. If so, I'll drive over and pick some up for you.

Also, Liquid Solutions has a site and they ship beer.

I checked Chevy Chase Wine...their selection is great...but alas no Cruzcampo...hopefully I can convince my wife to make a trip to Chicago...if I'm meant to drink Cruzcampo, it'll happen...my wife half-jokingly said it won't be as good as I remember anyway, she's probably right.

We have plenty of Chicago members on the board here. Hopefully one of them can help you locate it.
You might check with this store.

The DiCarlo website has it...I haven't placed my order to see if it's in stock, but I'll keep my fingers crossed. Thanks for all your help, it is greatly appreciated. After I refresh my taste buds' memory of Cruzcampo, I'll be looking to try some new beers, especially that Dogfish beer that won the contest on the website.

I've also been thinking I need to get my hands on that beer. Might have to set up a trade soon.

I was disappointed that Dreadnaught did not win. I like Dogfish head and visit the brewery fairly often.

I haven't had a chance to visit DFH yet... the last time I was over that way they were closed. :(

My beach place is down the road in OC. I often take the DE route through Rehobeth to get there. Or sometimes I just head up to Rehobeth for fun. There is a Rams Head Tavern there too with the Fordham beers.

To ship my beer order, Dicarlo's said it would be $13.00, is this a normal average price to ship beer? I understand since a person would be shipping glass there might be increased cost....but that seems a little high.

How much beer are we talking? Six 12 oz. bottles? Larger bottles? More? When I trade, depending on where the package is going and which shipper I use it can cost as much as $10+ (east coast to the west coast) to ship a sixer of properly packaged beer.
I'd think a store that regularly ships things would get better rates and be more efficient. Seeing how the distance isn't that great between the store and your home, $13 does seem a bit high. Some companies make a profit on their shipping costs. I dislike that practice, but it's not illegal that I know of. Shop around, seek a trade with other people here or elsewhere or ask yourself how much this beer is worth to you.
Cheers!

Probably about right. I ship stuff I sell on Ebay and it is expensive.

FYI - FedEx, which usually has decent rates, charges less than $6 to send a 10lb. package from Chicago to KC (business address) - gets there in 2 days. Residential delivery is about $1-2 more. Unless DiCarlo's is charging you $7 for a box and styrofoam insert/peanuts, they seem to be making a profit on the shipping.
Cheers!

It's that "and handling" part that they're robbin-- I mean, charging you for...

How much are you getting and how fast is it getting to you? When I shipped a 6er of beer from CO to OR last week, it was about $9.50. And I had it shipped "slow boat to China" instead of 2nd day air. Yeah, it's kind of pricey, not because it's glass, but because glass is heavy. IIRC, DiCarlo is in Florida, right? That's not that much more $$$ to get it from FL to MO - just a few bucks more than what I paid. Add on top of that the fact that you're not just paying for Shipping.... it's Shipping And Handling. They gotta pay the guys packing up your beer for you, too!
Sounds like a reasonable price to pay for something that seems to mean so much to you. Hope you went for it!

How'd you ship? FedEx runs about $8.20 for that distance (including home delivery) - be there in 3 days.
I believe the DiCarlo site mentioned here is in Chicago - unless they have a sister store in FL.
And pay the guys that are packing the beer? hehe That's their job. If a store offers services like that, they should spread out the cost of it amongst all of their product lines. Should I tip the guy that gets me a cold case of brew from the cooler in the basement at my favorite beer store? No - it's his job.
If you decide to go for the Cruzcampo, consider buying more than a sixer. Buying in bulk is usually cheaper, to buy & ship - though, I can't speak for this store.
Cheers!

That's how I did it - guess they thought I was special or something. Yeah, home delivery was extra...

Odd. I print my own labels and drop off. Though, if you go through an independent ship drop-off, they do charge more to get their cut of the profits. I learned that early on - now I have an account and save $$ and hassles every time.

Well, I ordered a sixer, and DiCarlo's is in Illinois. I offered to buy a case, but I was told that would be $40 bucks to ship. I personally don't mind the shipping charge too much, but convincing my wife to spend $20 bucks on it is another issue.

$40?!!! Complete effin' BS! I quadrupled the weight of shipping a sixer (to a generous 40 pounds) and FedEx delivers to your front porch for $15 in 2 days. Again, any store that offers shipping services probably buys shipping supplies in bulk to cut down on cost and probably gets better shipping rates than this. Ripoff.
But hey, if I were desperate for a long-lost love of a beer, $20 wouldn't a big deal to relive the memories. Hope it's as good as you remember it. Enjoy!
Cheers!
