i have brewed an american pale ale and for the first time used crystal malt and hope pellets along with the LME instead of getting the hopped LME.

It has turned out tasting wonderfully but is very cloudy. At least from what I saw from the sample I drew to take the final gravity reading.

Can I add anything to it now to help clear it up a bit or is it too late? I have read that you can add gelatin to the secondary but I don't know about that for sure. If I can, is there special brewing gelatin or can I grab some flovrless regular gealtin form the super and put a bit in?

Check the search button using gelatin and you should get a ton of answers for this. I have covered this several times so if you cannot find it using gelatin try using "200 bloom" or just "bloom" if it gives you that 3 character error.

thanks for the direction brewmonkey. I did the search and found some things. However, i didn't find a way to use it or quantity to use.

I saw on one of the posts that someone used a teaspoon and I think they just "dropped" it in the secondary fermenter. I would have to assume then that that is the way to do it. But then, I saw another post that said to boil it then cool it then add it to the secondary but didn't secify the quantity to use.

Thanks for the advice and I'll keep looking around as well.

btw - I found a box of neutral gelatin 240 bloom in the cupboard.

The box of what you have will work fine. I prefer 200 bloom but that is me.

Doasge is really going to depend on the beer and the product used but I would think a teaspoon dissolved in about 1/2cup of water should work fine.

Remember, bring the water to a boil to drive off any potential problems but do not add the gelatin until the temp drops back down below 185 or you risk denaturing the gelatin. The only thing you get then is a pile of goo.

Good luck

bloom as best as i can figure out is the strength measurement of the gelatin. i googled it and that's more or less what i found...

100-200 is good for beer i guess....according to:
