While we're at it, we might as well brew the beer for you too! ;)

I would recommend buying from a local homebrew supply store if possible. That way you can inspect the ingredients that you are purchasing. I have never purchased any ingredients online for fear of being sent old stale hops or whatever. If you don't have a local store try sticking with the big name companies, since they sell more products it seems that their stock would be overturned quickly, which would give you fresher ingredients.

I buy my stuff at Bader Beer and Wine Supply www.baderbrewing.com He is just up the street and seems to have very quality products, but he isn't the cheapest.

There are several threads on this subject, but I couldn't find one to quote..
There are many really good, reputable online companies, one of my personal favorites is annapolishomebrew.com there is also, northernbrewer.com , stpats.com ,
austinhomebrew.com, whom I have not used yet, but plan to soon, ships for free on orders over 60.00 You can't beat that.
I have not recieved a bad kit yet from an online store.
Just search for Beer ingredient kits and see what comes up. The closer you can get to you the better due to shorter shipping time.

northernbrewer.com is pretty good...i can also recommend thebrewhut.com as well, though i don't use them online, they're local to me and where i go for my ingredients. kevin is most helpful. cannot recommend st. patricks at all, they treat people like crap imo.

I agree with the St Pats comment, but thier kits are very good.

I agree with going to the local shop whenever possible. Got to keep the money at home when you can. If not, here is the local shop I go to:

www.mainbrew.com

Not the least expensive but quality ingredients and a lot of knowledge.

Supporting your local shop is important, otherwise you end up like me. I have no local shop.
Because I don't have a local shop I have to get everything online, So far I have been very happy with The Grape and Granary (thegrape.net).

i've only diverged from using my home shop twice...once was with st. patricks and i would counsel anyone to avoid them. at best they are pricks to their customers in my experience. the other time was with northern brewer for some stuff that my local didn't have and i thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

definiitely give your locals your biz when you can; that's where the local info is. in fact, one of the things i had to go outside my local was for the tap-a-draft system, but i gave them a full report on it and if their suppliers can get it, i think they'll carry it. i recommend doing that, as well...telling your local about stuff you got outside of them and your opinion on it...it can definitely sway their stocking policy.

I have great experience with morebeer.com. They carry a lot of stuff and I have never had a problem with them, including talking with them on the phone with questions, etc. Nice people. The shop I go to here at home is listermann.com.

IMHO ...
The main consideration in mail-order as far as quality is concerned is how close they are to you if you are ordering liquid yeast; especially in the summer months.
Many online shops like austinhomebrew
offer icepacks as an option- GET THEM!!
Yes it adds maybe $1-2 cost; much cheaper than a ruined batch...
The shops I've had good exp. with-
www.austinhomebrew.com
www.annapolishomebrew.com

Gotta second my disappointment with
St. Pat's (are you guys reading this??)

I've used stpats quite a few times(but I am a walk in customer since I live in Austin) and everytime I have been treated pretty well. Plus, they are the only place I know of to get undermodified moravian and, at least, two different exclusive to stpats strains of czech yeast - Budvar 2000 and the Pils Urquell Strain.

I'll second the satisfaction with Beer, Beer and More Beer. Since our local shop closed, my friend and I didn't know where to go for supplies when we decided it was time for another batch. I don't know how I picked BB&MB (I sort of remember their site was the easiest to surf), but their selection and speed of delivery was outstanding. They also have the ice packs for yeast.

I started using St. Pats regardless of the warnings here, I went in with a very positive attitude and an open mind and ended up being treated like an idiot.

So much for them...

I use Austin Homebrew Supply, Annapolis Homebrew, and my local shop, the Beer Nut.

I do use Austin Homebrew whenever posssible, though. They're the ones that initially turned me onto brewing - loyalty, I guess.
