If you're at all familiar with this beer you must be aware of what a giant of the brewing world it was. Thanks to the machinations of an evil multinational "brewing" conglomerate the original yeast strain was lost but Kris Herterleer is trying to rebuild the brew to its former greatness. A buddy of mine sent him an E-mail commenting on the recent attempts to reformulate. There's two versions of the Oerbier on the shelves out in the world at present. One has a red/brown cap which was brewed in 2004 and is apparently not all that. The newest version has a white cap and says "special brew". This later one apparently approaches the body and sourness of the old Oerbier (or I guess you could say the oer Oerbier). I'm on the hunt for it as week speak.

Thanks for the info. Herteleer is a wildman. He has graced the stage at the Bricks on several occasions and his beers were excellent. I think the Bricks were the original importers of DeDolle brands. I have heard stories of fellow beer travelers having been to some of the Bricks tastings featuring DeDolle beers dropping by the brewery and being treated quite well. So I hope that the beers will again be what they once were. And to the Mad Brewers, I say a hearty Thanks!
