made this potato leek soup recipe (http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/recipe_views/views/14109?epiSearchPage=http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/find/results?search=potato+leek+soup&x=0&y=0) but bumped it up a bit with a few additions (good bit more potato-- about 5 small russets, 4 leeks, some chopped fresh basil, 3 cups of chicken broth, and more like 3/4 cup of half and half).

i paired with a spaten premium and it was really good. the beer is very light, crisp and subtle, just what this soup needed since it's got great flavor but it's not over the top in any way. The minerally, slightly sweet taste of the beer went great with the softly herbal leeks and basil. a very slight hop finish and a full carbonation washed away the soup and got you ready for the next bite. if you're looking for a light, comforting and tasty dinner this is a good one, and it's a good beer to go with light soups of all stripes. even a pilsner might be too hoppy.
